It certainly is ironic, I shall say. Nintendo just announced the new entry-level portable handheld gaming console, the Nintendo 2DS.
It defeats the purpose of the 3DS by its name – by removing one dimension off the gamer’s view, literally. Nintendo confirms that the 2DS plays all the games on the 3DS and DS, but only removed the 3D display feature, hence the name.
The 2DS will be sold in red and blue colour to match alongside with whatever your accessories are, and also two cameras at the rear side for you to take 3D photos, but you can’t view them on the 2DS. You’ll need to have a 3DS for that somehow.
It also seems like the 2DS doesn’t only removes one dimension from the display, but also in the audio as it has only one speaker, which makes it play mono sound, but an external audio device will fix that.
Let’s not forget about the price. Nintendo said that this is a entry-level handheld system, which will only cost $129.99 (approximately RM433.48) and is available as the same day as Pokémon X and Y, which is on the 12th of October 2013. Definitely is a good marketing strategy, eh?
