New Acer ConceptD 300 desktop and 7, 7 Pro laptops announced

Acer ConceptD Featured

During the [email protected] global announcement, Acer has announced the designer and developer focused ConceptD lineup is getting a refresh to the ConceptD 7 laptops while introducing a new ConceptD300 desktop to support the shift to home-based working for industry professionals.

Acer ConceptD 300

Acer ConceptD 300

The ConceptD 300 is carrying a slick and clean white design with a hint of a woody vintage feel which the refined mid-tower is elegant and compact enough to be placed on a desk without the bulky feel. Coupled with a triangular-patterned front air intake along with side ventilation for silent heat transfer, it packs a series of hardware of up to a 10th Gen Intel Core i7 processor, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 graphics, and 64 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz memory, making it easy to power through video editing, CAD, and 3D modeling projects and workflows with high-speed 1TB NVMe SSD and a large 4TB HDD to store all these creative deliverables.

The front panel also features ergonomically designed I/O ports for easy access. A full range of ports offers next-level connectivity with multiple USB 3.2 ports, an integrated SD card reader, and a USB Type-C port for multi-display support and up to 10 Gbps of blazing-fast data transfer.

Acer ConceptD 7 & 7 Pro

Acer ConceptD 7

The ConceptD 7 laptops are getting a refresh to match the performance and portability requirements of professional and enthusiast creators who need to move around frequently and work on the go. Now featuring 10th Gen Intel Core CPU, WiFi 6, Thunderbolt 3 with either GeForce or Quadro RTX GPU providing extreme performance for data crunching jobs while the 4K IPS, 100% ARGB PANTONE validated display with color accuracy of Delta E<2 makes artists and designer’s task more accurate and smoother than ever.

Holding all of these beastly components is a pure white thin-and-light chassis that is resistant to dirt and yellowing (which is quite a common issue for white color products) thanks to a special solid ceramic protective layer on the metal surface.

For cooling, Acer’s new Vortex Flow aerodynamic airflow mechanism spun by 3 high-speed fans will ensure efficient heat transfer while staying under less than 40 dBA of noise level to spare your ears a little.

Acer ConceptD 7 Pro

The USB Ports are also updated to 3.2 Gen 2 standards for 10Gbps transfers and the touchpad is upgraded with Corning Gorilla Glass for smooth, accurate yet durable input. The audio output is supported by DTS X: Ultra to provide superior audio quality and amplitude that is useful in almost anything.

Acer unveils new Swift, Spin and Aspire lineup of laptops with Inte’s 11th Gen SoCs

Acer Spin 5 Featured

Acer has announced several new models for the Swift, Spin, and Aspire lineup of consumer notebooks that pushes ultrabook territories to new boundaries.

Acer Swift 3X

The new Swift 3X is the latest Acer notebook that features an 11th Gen Intel Core CPU with the Iris Xe MAX discrete graphics card and makes up a full Team Blue ultrabook. Packing a great battery at up to 17.5 hours while weighing in at just 1.37kg, it is very suitable for light load creative professionals who can utilize the 72% NTSC color gamut 14-inch FHD IPS display fully. Sporting a full Intel setup, it definitely has some of the latest in-house techs such as Intel Wi-Fi 6 and Thunderbolt 4 alongside some common USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports for fast and convenient data transfer.

Acer Spin 5

Meanwhile, the popular 2-in-1 convertible Spin 5 now can have its touchscreen and touchpad covered with an optional layer of Antimicrobial Corning Gorilla Glass for a low microbial rate at all times while giving it decent protection against scratch and bumps which is pretty useful in this day and age of viruses, infections, and whatnot.

Powering the device now is up to an 11th Gen Intel Core i7 processor with Iris Xe graphics and the touchscreen is a 3:2 IPS VertiView display that provides 18% more screen real-estate compared to a 16:9 display and achieving an 80% screen-to-body ratio thanks to the super narrow 7.78 mm side bezels. Other notable features include up to 15 hours of battery life,full-function USB Type-C ports with Thunderbolt 4  Killer 1650 Wi-Fi dual front-facing speakers, and Acer Active Stylus with Wacom AES.

On a side note, the Spin 3 is more or less the same but with a smaller screen estate and slightly different hardware configurations.

Acer Aspire 5

For the Acer Aspire 5, the traditional clamshell powerhouse now houses the latest 11th Gen Intel Core processors with Iris Xe graphics or optional NVIDIA GeForce MX 450 discreet card that breezes through productivity tasks with ease. While staying on the sleek and professional look, it can pack up to 24GB of DDR4 memory and up to 1 TB M.2 PCIe SSD and 2 TB HDD storage which will completely wipe out your thoughts of future expansion since it is plenty enough for most users. The ergonomic hinge design lifts the body of the Aspire 5 and tilts the keyboard to an angle for comfortable typing, better sound projection, and improved ventilation, while Acer Color Intelligence enhances the visual appearance. For networking, the Dual-band Intel Wi-Fi 6 (Gig+) will make your connection stays fast and responsive all the time.

Pricing and Availability

Currently, price and availability for our Malaysian market are not yet officialized, so let’s check out the foreign pricing in the meantime.

The OnePlus 8T will be available from October 28; starts from RM2,699

OnePlus 8T Featured

OnePlus has finally announced the availability of the OnePlus 8T in Malaysia that starts from RM2,699.

Being an OnePlus device, flagship hardware has always been the priority for the main series so let’s take a look at them.

OnePlus 8T

  • 6.55-inch Fluid AMOLED display
    • 1080p resolution
    • Punch hole notch at the top left corner
    • 120Hz refresh rate
    • HDR10+ certified
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset
  • Up to 12GB RAM
  • Up to 256GB storage
  • Quadruple rear-facing cameras
    • Main: 48MP f/1.7 with PDAF, OIS
    • Ultra-wide angle: 16MP f/2.2
    • Macro: 2MP f/2.4
    • Depth Sensor
  • 16MP f/2.4 selfie camera
  • 4,500mAh battery
    • 65W wired charger
  • Android 11 with OxygenOS 11.0
  • Aquamarine Green, Lunar Silver colors

There are 2 configurations available to choose from:

  • 8GB RAM + 128GB storage @ RM2,699
  • 12GB RAM +256GB storage @ RM2,999

Abandoning the classic rear camera placement at the center and instead now on the top left with OxygenOS 11.0 looking more like Samsung’s One UI, I wonder what OnePlus’s take on community-focused user experience going against attempts of growing new user base through familiarization will lead the OxygenOS in the future.

Where to Buy

OnePlus 8T Pop Up Bundle

The OnePlus 8T will become available first online at Lazada when the midnight clock strikes on October 28 with the offline sales starting on October 31 at all authorized dealers stores. If you can wait for a couple of weeks, the Nov 11 Sale of the Year event will feature the 8T Pop-Up Bundle that includes a 12GB RAM + 256GB storage model, Quantum Bumper Case, and Oneplus Buds for the same price of RM2,999, essentially treating the 2 items as freebies. The bundle will be available only from 12 a.m to 2 a.m with 250 units available so gotta go fast on your fingers if you want to secure one.

Addendum: OnePlus 8T’s pricing is weird

For us here in Malaysia, the OnePlus 8T is even cheaper than the OnePlus 8’s base starting price – and that phone only launched 6 months ago.

Looking at the announcement and after reviewing the Galaxy S20 FE, honestly, I’m feeling a little unimpressed in terms of what OnePlus has to offer. Coming in as the middle child between the original OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro with a bit of mix and match, I can tell you how the Galaxy S20 FE is winning over it despite being slightly expensive – because we Malaysians get the 256GB storage model instead of the 128GB.

Samsung’s own app ecosystem is obviously way better than OnePlus with many of the features being actually practical in daily life use such as Samsung Pay and Samsung Home. The inclusive of Samsung DeX even allows extending its usage beyond as a smartphone.

Both of them strike a 120Hz display but the S20 FE has wireless charging. For a device that is priced near the RM3k mark but doesn’t have wireless charging, it really skews my preference of recommendation even coming from an OnePlus user like myself.

While the T series of Oneplus devices is less of a surprise but more of a stable upgrade built upon the initial models, I hope the company can do something similar to the OnePlus One and return to the throne of the once gloried flagship killer.

First look – Huawei Mate 40 Pro

Huawei Mate 40 Pro

And here we have, the brand new Huawei Mate 40 Pro. It comes with a lot of different new features and overall, it’s an iterative upgrade over the Mate 30 Pro from last year. In today’s content, we have our thanks to Huawei Malaysia for actually going out of their way to get us an exclusive look at the Huawei Mate 40 Pro, even though just for only 2 hours.

In terms of design, it’s pretty similar to its predecessor. It has more or less the same shape and size and also curves, but comes with a few major differences – like the camera cutout. The rear-facing cameras are now having iPod click wheel lookalike design and the cameras are now on the ring itself, rather than within the circle.

Huawei Mate 40 Pro

We have both the Huawei Mate 40 Pro in silver and black colors with us. The silver color has a matte glass finish whereby the black color is using the conventional glossy glass finish instead.

Huawei Mate 40 Pro

There is also another white color which is presumably in a glossy white color too, whereby there are two more colors in vegan leather – green and yellow.

Huawei Mate 40 Pro

The selfie cameras have similar to how the P40 Pro looks with a widened pill cutout shape.

Huawei Mate 40 Pro

And hey – it now has stereo speakers again! But instead of having the earpiece becoming a speaker, it has another speaker firing towards the top, just like how tablet speakers work.

Huawei Mate 40 Pro

And of course – the cameras. The main camera got upgraded the most as uses a 50MP sensor and can also take 50MP pictures in RAW format! That’s just amazing as other smartphones with high-resolution camera sensors do not have this feature as of now.

Please watch the video at the top of this page to look at the picture samples.

There’s also another new (presumably proprietary) fast charging standard from Huawei which goes up to 66W of power. Also unsure if it’s using GaN substrate or silicon – but from the size, it looks like GaN.

Huawei Mate 40 Pro

The thing is, we’re unsure if it requires a proprietary cable too since it uses a USB-A instead of USB-C. We also do not have the information if the Huawei Mate 40 Pro’s 4,400mAh battery is dual-cell in design or single-cell.

As for software, it’s using EMUI 11 and still with the Huawei Mobile Services but Huawei is also putting up more focus on their own ecosystem of apps – including Huawei Pay which is said to be coming to Malaysia soon. It works pretty much the same as Samsung Pay.

As of now, we still do not have the availability or pricing for the Huawei Mate 40 Pro in Malaysia yet, but we’ll update this page when we have the information.

Jabra Elite 75t TWS earbuds gets ANC feature via software update

Jabra Elite 75t

Great news! For those who are currently using the Jabra Elite 75t, download the Jabra Sound+ app today (if you haven’t already) and update it right now! Jabra has announced a free over-the-air update that grants Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) feature which will reach all users via the Sound+ app.

To me personally, I think this is a funny thing for Jabra to do as the Jabra Elite 75t is already… many months old and even the Jabra Elite 85t has already been announced. I just want to say, Jabra is really being the best example of what long-term product support is done and not re-selling earbuds after a few months.

The Jabra Elite 75t and the Elite Active 75t are IP55 and IP57 rated respectively, and have long battery life make it a great companion not only for an idle person. The Elite Active 75t is also made for sport-centric users who sweats a lot.

Jabra Elite Active 75t

The sound quality and user experience are great as well, why not check out our reviews to see why it is that good (albeit with a hefty price tag).

Price and Availability

For a short recap, there are 4 available models for the 75t TWS lineup, mainly separated by the presence of wireless charging capability.

Elite 75t

Titanium Black, Gold Beige

Elite 75t w/ Wireless Charging

You can now get safe and genuine medicines through verified Shopee pharmacies

Shopee Verified Pharmacies Featured

Shopee has officially joined hands with the Malaysian Pharmaceutical Society (MPS) to provide a safe and secure environment for pharmacies to transition to digital business on the e-commerce platform while expanding the range of goods available for consumer purchase.

Through this collaboration, sooner or later users will be able to identify MPS-verified pharmacies on Shopee by looking for the “MPS Certificate of Verification” statement displayed within the storefront page that guarantees the legitimacy of the seller’s license and their offerings. Not only for convenience alone, but it also increases the public awareness of the pharmacy’s role as proper health hubs and improves the ease of access of common medicines to more potential users who are now mostly operating within their homes.

Shopee Verified Pharmacies

For pharmacies operators who wish to apply for the verification, they will need to have their physical outlet have at least one registered pharmacist with a government-issued Type A Poison license (for pharmacists only) and also at least one of their pharmacists is an MPS member. After successfully getting the verification, an official banner or some sort will be displayed as below.

Shopee Verified Pharmacies

To start off the initiative, MPS will be organizing 2 rounds of Shopee Live sessions on October 21 at 5 p.m and October 30 at 8 p.m where they will be sharing practical advice and tips on purchasing and consuming pharmaceutical products while giving out special vouchers and exciting prizes in a small giveaway session. Stay tuned to the live stream if you are interested in or frequent online medicine shopping.

The HUAWEI MateBook 14 is starting from RM3,799 with preorder bonus of RM1177 worth of items

HUAWEI MateBook 14 Featured

Huawei Malaysia has announced that they are bringing the Huawei MateBook 14 to us on October 30 and by placing a preorder, you’ll get freebies to consist of Huawei FreeBuds 3, a backpack, and a Bluetooth mouse.

HUAWEI MateBook 14

The laptop comes equipped with either the AMD Ryzen 5 4600H or Ryzen 7 4800H with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of NVMe storage for maximized performance and portability that weighs in at only 1.49kg and a maximum thickness of 15.9mm. Exclusive to the Ryzen 7 4800H model, the FullView Display is also a touch-enabled panel that supports a three-finger swipe gesture that operates much like a smartphone.

I should also mention that “FullView Display” here means that it’s using a 3:2 aspect ratio screen, just like the MateBook X Pro that we reviewed earlier this year.

HUAWEI MateBook 14

To eliminate the needs of bringing along too much power bricks during travel, the laptop charger apparently is a 2-in-1 type that lets you charge the device alongside your smartphone at the same time. Other notable features include a fingerprint scanner and direct mirroring of Huawei smartphones with the Multi-Screen collaboration function.

Preorder period, Prices and Platforms
