The ASUS UX501 is a 15.6-inch sleek powerhouse that has an aluminium unibody to go along with a thin build. It has a satisfying keyboard but its trackpad lacks practicality. Overall it has some flaws here and there, so you might want to know more before making the move to purchase it.

First and foremost, I have to complain is the trackpad’s surface. It’s really smooth and only has minimal friction too. I can barely feel where my finger is gliding towards. Took me quite some time for me to get used to its glide.

The second thing I have to complain about is the clicker buttons on the trackpad. Aesthetically speaking, having the left and right click buttons flushed onto the smooth trackpad itself looks really sleek and sexy. Practically speaking however, it feels absolutely horrifying. The clicks are way too noisy. If you are to click anything using the trackpad’s button, it will definitely ring throughout the entire library.

Also, the trackpad isn’t biased to the left side. Makes the keyboard even more awkward to use if the trackpad is active. Because, let’s be honest here – the palm detection/rejection technology isn’t really foolproof.

On the other hand, its keyboard is above average I should say. The travel distance is quite short, but then it has a really satisfying tactile feedback on the keyboard. Another plus point here is the full-sized keyboard too.

Its white backlit keyboard is bright enough to be used at night and isn’t bright enough to blind the user. I personally have zero negative comments about the keyboard here – it’s functionally great.

One thing to notice is that the arrow keys aren’t perfectly square. They’re slightly elongated vertically, so it’s slightly rectangular.
