There’s been crazy development in hard disk technology these days since the inception of helium-filled hard disks. WD is taking helium-filled hard disks to the next level here with their WD Gold series of datacenter hard drives.
We did talk about them before – where they have capacities up to 8TB. Eight terabytes!
Helium-filled hard disks enables the hard disk platters to be much more denser than before. That doesn’t mean it’s a one-time upgrade. WD manages to make it even better, and cramped in another 25% of capacity into it – totaling to a massive 10TB capacity. Ten freaking terabytes!
WD even claims 3 things – the HelioSeal technology improves its power efficiency by 26% compared to the WD Gold 8TB. Even has 21% higher sequential performance over the predecessor. Heck, WD says the WD Gold 10TB has 2.5 million hours of MTBF (mean time between failures) too!
The brand new WD Gold 10TB has the model number of WD101KRYZ, and is actually available by select retailers. WD’s price tag for it is RM3,499. Hefty – I know, but think of the terabytes, man.
