In lieu of Apple’s announcement that happened a few hours ago, there are a few things to take note of. Firstly, the new MacBook Pro has been announced. Everything has already been leaked, so I wonder what’s the point of that announcement anyway. Introducing some of the latest and greatest feature on a laptop ever – the new, late 2016 MacBook Pro model.
The heavily rumoured Touch Bar and Touch ID is real. This is by far the most exciting feature on the new MacBook Pro, and it has some integration with Photos, Final Cut Pro, Mail, Safari, and Keynote. This little Touch Bar can be customized too, depending on how you want it to be. And yes, Touch ID is integrated on the far right corner of the MacBook Pro’s Touch Bar.
What is most surprising is that Apple makes 2 variants of the new MacBook Pro 13-inch. There’s one with 4 USB-C ports and has Touch Bar, whereas the other one has only 2 USB-C ports without Touch Bar.
It also has a brand new display too – with 500 nits of brightness, 67% higher contract ratio, and 25% more colours than sRGB. It is still an IPS LED panel with 2560×1600 pixels though. Same old retina resolution.
Other than that, it received a mild physical redesign for its speakers, keyboard with Butterfly Switch v2 and only 14.9mm thin for the 13-inch model, 15,5mm thin for the 15-inch model.

As for the prices, it starts off RM 6,299.00 for the 13-inch model without Touch Bar and ends at RM 11,999.00 for the 15-inch model with top-of-the-line specs.

R.I.P. MacBook Air
So… at this point of time, we kinda already expected the MacBook Air 11-inch to die out completely. Having an iPad Pro and the brand new MacBook 12-inch squeezing out the MacBook Air 11-inch from its comfortable position, the future is bleak. And it did happen. Apple killed the MacBook Air 11-inch completely. Even the 13-inch version isn’t updated at all.
If you visit the Buy Now page for the MacBook Air, there’s only the 13-inch version available. 11-inch version is nowhere to be seen.
A few things is expected to happen – death to MagSafe, death even of the MacBook Pro with optical drive and hard disk, and death to the MacBook Air 11-inch. Gone are the days where you can yank off the power cable without dragging your MacBook into oblivion!
The question now is this – should you buy a MacBook Air? The answer is pretty much no. 11-inch is dead, 13-inch hasn’t been updated for nearly 600 days now. However, this is the lowest-priced MacBook that Apple sells now at RM 4,199.
Seems like Apple just gave us a big “F**K YOU” to those who wanted to get an entry-level MacBook for doing stuff on-the-go (me included).
