It seems like 2016 is the year of explosive techs. The new MacBook Pro speakers blow up on Windows 10 issue has just been discovered a while ago. So far, it has happened to those 15-inch MacBook Pros with Touch Bar. This is obviously a very drastic change from the previous MacBooks, as it only has a some USB-C and headphone jack. When it’s on Windows 10 via BootCamp, something drastic happens.
The issue here is absolutely irreversible too. Lon stated that the issue was first noticed happening when he installed Windows 10 using BootCamp on his external SSD and then used the official $80 USD Apple USB-C dongle to get some USB-A ports for his Xbox Controller.
When he plugged in his Xbox Controller, he describes that it has a “huge popping sound”. Weirdly enough, the entire MacBook Pro 15-inch with Touch Bar did not stop working. Everything continued to function as it should.
Everything works – even the Xbox Controller works now. However, the right channel speaker isn’t working. Lon said that it’s “blown”. As you might have guessed, any sort of blown electronics cannot be reversed. The blown out parts will have to be swapped.
Check out Lon’s description of this issue. It’s a very serious issue, in my opinion. And we have to voice this out for Apple to get a fix quick. Also, he’s not the only one with this issue.
From what I can say, these things shouldn’t happen at all. Not sure what’s causing the new MacBook Pro speakers blow up on Windows 10, but there might be a driver issue. Irregardless, Apple will most probably dismiss this issue and ask users to pay up to get it fixed – just like the Apple iPhone 6/Plus Touch Disease.
So far, Apple has yet to respond to this issue.
We’ll keep you posted, for sure.
UPDATE: Since Lon’s original post about this issue, Apple has acknowledged that this is indeed an issue with BootCamp on the 15-inch MacBook Pro. However, you’ll have to download the update from the Apple Software Update application. Remember to get the audio driver fix, or else your speaker will get blown up too!
