Let’s face it. Samsung sells millions of smartphones in a year. Every single smartphone ships with a box, and that took a toll on the environment. Samsung is making things right now by using environment-friendly packaging material like paper and other environmentally sustainable materials.
This is not limited to smartphones alone, actually. Samsung’s shift from plastic to sustainable packaging materials will affect its mobile phones, tablets, and home appliance packaging. We will adopt more environmentally sustainable materials even if it means an increase in cost.
– Gyeong-bin Jeon, head of Samsung’s Global Customer Satisfaction Center
Samsung Electronics will be replacing protective plastic bags for TVs, refrigerators, monitors, and other appliances with bags containing recycled materials and bioplastics. Samsung Electronics aim to eliminate the use of plastic and fossil fuel and replace them with organic materials like starch and sugar cane.

Any documentation like user manual, guides, and warranty information cards will be printed out of fiber materials that are certified by global environmental organizations like the Forest Stewardship Council, Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Scheme and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative. This initiative on paper will be completed by 2020.
