Day after day the question that I always get is the same – what’s the best phone for now? Of course, I get this mostly from students since I am after all a university student and smartphones are pretty important to us, when you really know how to utilize it.
That said, we do have a hunger for power since we’re squeezing the smartphone to its maximum potential – but the price is always a problem. Thus, we go on a research to see which smartphone is the best, of course in terms of a list of criteria stated below, by becoming a confused student myself :
- Performance
- No 3G
- Features
- A little bit on hardware
- Battery
- Screen size
- Price

Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3
Let’s face it – everyone who sees this phone will say one thing – it’s too big. If you do look at it in another way however, 6.3 inch isn’t actually that bad. The Galaxy Tab 7.0 product line is big, but indeed that thing can actually be a phone. With an 8MP camera and a huge 6.3 inch screen, this baby can let you read your lecture notes efficiently without having to scroll up and down or zoom much! Since it does have an microSD card slot, you can store all of your assignments in it as if it’s your personal flash drive. For a large 3200mAh battery that can last throughout the whole day (and more), the price of this phone is RM1,599.
Apple iPhone 5
Of course, the ever famous iPhone 5. This phone is definitely the most famous choice for users, as Apple only focuses on one flagship device. A phone that has an 8MP camera, though a small 4 inch screen and a 1440mAh that can barely even last for a full day. With no microSD slot or any sort of direct memory access, the phone still serves pretty well as a lecture notes reader. Though it does have its own limitations, this phone is definitely the easiest to use – at least for first time smartphone users who aren’t technologically-inclined. The iPhone 5 is yours for RM2,199.
Samsung Galaxy Note II
The ever famous Galaxy flagship phone that comes after the Galaxy S series. Known for its large screen for a phone – though not the largest (for now), the Galaxy Note II is still an appeal for many as it is the phone with the highest performance and a large 5.5 inch screen, alongside with a 3100mAh battery that is quite difficult to run out completely within a day which also comes with another 8MP camera. The phone – if you didn’t know – comes with an S Pen, made specially by Wacom for its realistic pen-like writing on the phone itself, and save them all to the microSD card. The Galaxy Note II’s price is a little weird, as it does fluctuate a lot, depending on where you’re making your purchase.
LG Nexus 4
Ahhh, the Nexus phone. Personally, I am using one and I love it a lot! It’s a great phone for value as it is with the best price-performance ratio. It does gets the latest updates the fastest – even gets an abundance of custom firmware to tailor the phone according to how you like it. Of course the phone has its own shortcomings, as there is no microSD slot and only has a 2100mAh battery for its 4.7 inch screen. However, it does have a 8MP camera too, and only costs RM1,650 for Google’s flagship device. The order of the phones arranged in the list is not rated in any kind. All prices above are stated in RRP, but you can find cheaper price outside (except for Apple iPhone 5)

Personally, I would like to add ASUS Fonepad into my must-have list. The world is changing, and myself as a student didn’t want any troubles carrying my laptop into the classes, but a nice tablet with phone features will really do the job.
