Apple has once again decided to show its R&D skills in SoC development through the debut of the 2021 MacBook Pro carrying the new M1 Pro and M1 Max chips.
First things first, you’ll definitely notice the significant lift in visual fidelity for the display because it is now running the Liquid Retina XDR miniLED-based panel with high-class HDR capabilities thanks to its high peak brightness, wide DCI-P3 color gamut coverage and 120Hz refresh rate with ProMotion and creative designers will surely appreciate this superior upgrade. But a notch has been added because it needs to house a 1080p FaceTime HD webcam?? You sure it wasn’t because of some “dead pixel” that you are forced to make a cutout??
Taking the big spotlight other than the “shitty” notch is definitely the debut of the new M1 Pro and M1 Max SoCs that are definitely the most cherry-picked silicon cutouts of all. All models share the distinction of having 10 CPU cores as a standard while the GPU core count can go up to 16 for the M1 Pro and double that for the M1 Max on top of 16-core Neutral Engine for all the AI-based workloads. According to Apple, XCode compilation can be 3.7x faster compared to last-gen offerings while 4K video rendering takes that figure and makes it 13.4x. Holy mama. Additionally, video and audio editing software Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro have also been updated to harness the beastly computing performance by increasing the limit of aspects such as plugin count and QoL refreshes.
The newly supported MagSafe 3 connector can make your power cord tripping experience less terrifying as it safely protects the charging port by only disconnecting the magnetic portion of the cable. But you still can charge the device through USB-C. Thanks for the generosity this time around Apple.
The following are the starting specs for both machines and take note. These are STARTING SPECS and you can crank most configurations higher and watch the price tag heading to the moon.
