Welp, seems like what’s going to come finally came – MyDigital ID launched by the Malaysian government has booted up its server and is currently accepting all eligible submissions to fill up the digital identity management and authentication platform.
Said to alleviate vulnerabilities that exist in the current online identity verification systems, the platform will be the central repository for various essential services such as government facilities, financial services, education, and healthcare to access relevant personal information in an authorized manner.
Available through the Google Play Store as well as the Apple App Store, MyDigital ID is gunning for convenience by releasing the mobile app and not relying on web portals for a change which is pretty cool.
In terms of initial integration, it has already been part of the Human Resources Management Information System (HRMIS) Mobile, MySejahtera, MyJPJ, and the MyGov portal with more to come. This way, anything that requires additional biometric verification will be skipped, allowing fast-tracking of various legal documents and program applications for Malaysians.
Of course, privacy concerns are what started the project hence they are respecting users’ biometric data by not storing any of them and only temporarily using them for verification during registration.
