While the Apple M5 series of processors was released last year, it was only the base M5 model for selected products, but from today, it is not in the MacBook Air, while the previously M5-powered MacBook Pro is now given the new M5 Pro and M5 Max variants.
The 2026 edition of the MacBook Air will be getting 2x the starting storage than before, which is now from 512GB and reaching up to 4TB, while being faster than ever. Aside from the M5 chip, it is also equipped with the new Apple N1 wireless chip that provides Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, which should make connectivity more reliable and future-proof.
All of that is wrapped in the same thin, light aluminum design, now paired with a Liquid Retina display, 12MP Center Stage camera, up to 18 hours of battery life, Spatial Audio support, and dual Thunderbolt 4 ports with external display support.
The power of M5, which is in last year’s MacBook Pro, is now in a thinner chassis yet remains as powerful thanks to the 10-core CPU and up to 10-core GPU with Neural Accelerators config, delivering competent ay-traced 3D rendering, AI video enhancement, and image processing in a portable form factor.
Meanwhile, the refreshed MacBook Pro is said to offer up to 4x AI performance compared to the previous generation, all because of the M5 Pro and M5 Max built on Apple’s new Fusion architecture for better hardware performance scaling.
The M5 Pro and M5 Max feature up to an 18-core CPU, including six “super cores” and 12 performance cores tuned for multithreaded pro workflows. GPU (Up to 20-core for M5 Pro and up to 40-core for M5 Max) performance also jumps by up to 50% over M4 Pro and M4 Max, with Neural Accelerators embedded in each core to push on-device LLMs and AI image generation even further.
Storage-wise, the faster SSDs are here too, with starting capacity bumped to 1TB for M5 Pro and 2TB for M5 Max models. Unified memory bandwidth scales up to 307GB/s on M5 Pro and a massive 614GB/s on M5 Max, with support for up to 128GB of unified memory on the top-tier configuration.
Battery life stays strong with up to 24 hours of continuous usage, and you also get a iquid Retina XDR display with up to 1600 nits HDR brightness, Thunderbolt 5, HDMI with 8K support, SDXC card slot, MagSafe 3, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, a 12MP Center Stage camera, studio-quality mics, and a six-speaker system with Spatial Audio.
