MediaTek held a launch event in Malaysia called “The Next Leap” to bring its new flagship Dimensity 9600 Pro and Dimensity 9600M chipsets to the local market. The headline for Malaysian buyers is that vivo confirmed its upcoming X500 series will be the first to carry the 9600 Pro here, launching locally at the end of October.
The Dimensity 9600 Pro is built on a 2nm process and leans on what MediaTek calls a Native AI Architecture, which fuses the CPU, GPU, and ISP with AI capabilities. The aim is to shift AI from a passive responder into a more proactive digital companion. Its main features include:
- CPU: A 2+3+3 All Big Core design, with two C2-Ultra cores at up to 4.55GHz, three C2-Pro cores at 4.35GHz, and three C2-Pro cores at 3.1GHz. MediaTek claims up to 17% higher single-core and 15% higher multi-core performance than the previous generation, along with a 61% reduction in multi-core power consumption.
- AI: A dual-NPU design and the Dimensity Agentic AI Engine. The NPU 1090 offers 51% faster prefill performance and supports Google’s on-device AISeal security architecture, which MediaTek says means faster responses and better privacy.
- Gaming: The G2-Ultra NX GPU delivers up to 27% higher peak performance, 24% lower power consumption, and 18% faster ray tracing, enabling console-grade gaming at up to 185fps.
- Imaging: The Imagiq 1290 ISP and an AI Imaging Fusion Architecture handle advanced computational photography and content creation.
The Dimensity 9600M was announced alongside it and is built with the 9600 Pro’s platform technologies, bringing similar imaging, AI, performance, gaming, and connectivity strengths to a premium processor.
Meanwhile, OPPO and vivo are among the list of brands that will be releasing new flagship smartphones equipped with the Dimensity 9600 Pro.
MediaTek also showed the wider range of its portfolio at the event, including the Dimensity 7400, the Dimensity 8500, and the Dimensity 8550. The 8550 powers devices such as the Tecno Camon 50 Ultra, Xiaomi 17T, and OPPO Reno 16 Pro, while an interactive panel discussed how AI can make smartphones more responsive, efficient, and intuitive.
