OPPO has unveiled ColorOS 17, its next-generation mobile operating system, debuting on the upcoming Find X10 Series before rolling out progressively to more OPPO devices worldwide. The update focuses on two things: even smoother interactions and AI that does more than answer questions.

On the design side, OPPO is introducing Living Flow Design, built on three ideas. Luminous Effect adds softer, more translucent visuals with subtle lighting that responds to touch. Fluid Motion lets interface elements move, merge, and transform from one state to the next. Flexible Feedback makes buttons and toolbars compress, stretch, and rebound when you tap them, so interactions feel more tactile than mechanical.

Underneath, a new Unified Rendering Architecture on the refreshed Luminous Rendering Engine merges previously separate rendering processes into one pipeline. In key scenarios, OPPO says it cuts rendering loads by up to 30% and rendering RAM usage by up to 25% compared with the previous generation. The upgraded Laminar Flow Engine handles resource scheduling, with these gains cited from OPPO Lab data:

  • App launch stability improves by 55%.
  • Gallery thumbnails load up to 50% faster on first launch compared with ColorOS 16.
  • More than 25% more apps can stay running in the background.
  • In tests simulating six years of use, the system retains over 90% of its initial smoothness, even with storage at 90% capacity.

Meanwhile, the AI side is getting more powerful with this iteration, as it has been upgraded with more functionalities:

  • AI Mind Pilot (Agent Mode): Works directly with photos and files on the device, searching multiple sources and coordinating multi-step tasks. It can find and organize scattered files, rename them by content and date, and use their contents to create outputs like travel itineraries or webpages. It can also sort trip photos into albums and turn a photo into a vlog cover.
  • AI Photo Agent: Style Match lets you provide a reference image, and the agent applies a similar color palette, tone, and mood to your own photo. You can also describe edits in natural language or let it recommend adjustments. It rolls out gradually across countries, with Europe to follow later, and monthly usage limits apply.
  • AI Mind Space: Now saves documents and video links, turning them into structured, searchable memories. Memory Collections organizes related memories automatically and can combine them with destination maps to build trip plans.
  • AI Mind Suggest: Proactively surfaces timely information, such as morning briefs, flight and train cards, and music suggestions when headphones connect. Some features, including MakeMyTrip train cards, flight reminders, and Spotify recommendations, are limited to certain regions.
  • OSee: Brings visual AI into one experience. A single press of the camera shutter connects you to object recognition, knowledge lookup, nutrition analysis, HD scanning, and translation.

As for privacy, the OPPO Private Computing Cloud protects data used for cloud AI processing with end-to-end encryption, in an environment designed to block third-party access, including OPPO itself. Post-quantum security with a dual-encryption mechanism for data moving between the device and the cloud has been added too.

A new Transparency Report shows which AI services were used, when, and what operations were performed, and it can be viewed or exported on-device. AI Call Guard uses on-device AI to monitor calls in real time for fraud risks such as synthetic voices and AI face swaps, alerting you when something looks suspicious.
