Nothing has begun the general rollout of Nothing OS 5.0, which it calls its biggest software update yet. It brings over 80 updates across design, personalisation, performance, and AI, all built on Android 17. The release starts today on the Phone (3) and will reach more Nothing and CMF smartphones over the coming months.
The general release adds a few new things on top of what testers already saw during the Open Beta:
- Redesigned Home Screen: Widgets and the search bar get transparent details, and an adaptive colour system pulls from your wallpaper for a more cohesive look.
- Micrographics clock face: A hardware-inspired Lock Screen clock that shows the date, time, weather, and upcoming meetings at a glance.
- Essential Space improvements: Further updates will arrive through Google Play alongside the general release.
The rest of the 5.0 feature set came from the Open Beta and is now part of the full rollout:
Design: Refreshed icons, spacing, and animations across the status bar, Settings, Camera, and Gallery, plus the Geist typeface and more consistent visual details throughout.
Personalisation: New widgets include Collector, which lets you build visual collections of favourite objects, and Away Time, which tracks screen-free time. Home Screen editing is better too, so you can move multiple apps and widgets at once.
Performance: Nothing cites improved touch response, background app retention, and system resource management, along with refined animations across apps, folders, widgets, and multitasking.
Android 17: Separate Notifications and Quick Settings panels, cross-platform Quick Share, enhanced privacy controls, and a redesigned Recents screen.
Essential AI:
- Essential Voice offers faster, cleaner transcription.
- Essential Space adds Smart Collections.
- Essential Apps Builder is now available directly on the phone, letting you describe, build, and deploy AI-powered apps without coding.
