At COMPUTEX 2026, Cadence announced the latest evolution of its ChipStack AI Super Agent, which is the very first autonomous virtual AI design engineer with a Level-5 autonomous system that combines Cadence’s electronic design automation (EDA) technologies with NVIDIA Nemotron AI models and NVIDIA OpenShell runtime to automate complex chip design and verification workflows.

The platform can now independently manage a wide range of engineering tasks, including specification analysis, RTL generation, verification planning, formal analysis, simulation, debugging, and design convergence. Unlike traditional AI assistants that rely on user prompts for each step, the autonomous agent is designed to evaluate intermediate results, determine subsequent actions, and continuously iterate toward project completion while keeping engineers involved for oversight and guidance.

Within the semiconductor industry, chip verification remains one of the most resource and time-intensive processes, with NVIDIA collectively using billions of compute hours annually to execute millions of verification tests. By automating these workflows through Cadence Xcelium Logic Simulation and Jasper Formal Verification, the ChipStack AI Super Agent is expected to deliver more than 40x faster RTL validation cycles, reducing a typical five-week verification process to less than a day.

The company’s emphasis on trust and accuracy is brought forward by the new AI agent capable of operating in conjunction with its physics-based design and verification engines, ensuring that decisions and actions remain grounded in proven computational models rather than relying solely on generative AI outputs. This approach is intended to support deployment in high-stakes semiconductor development programs where accuracy and validation remain critical requirements.

To address security concerns, the ChipStack AI Super Agent runs within NVIDIA OpenShell, a sandboxed runtime environment designed for autonomous AI agents. The platform provides governance controls, policy enforcement, workload isolation, and managed access to tools, infrastructure, and design data, helping organizations protect sensitive intellectual property while deploying autonomous engineering workflows.

The announcement also highlights Cadence’s broader agentic AI roadmap following its acquisition of ChipStack in November 2025. Since then, the company has expanded its AI portfolio with products including the ViraStack AI Super Agent for custom and analog design, the InnoStack AI Super Agent for digital implementation and signoff, and the AgentStack orchestration framework for coordinating AI-driven workflows across the design stack.

The Level-5 autonomous capabilities for ChipStack AI Super Agent, along with the AgentStack orchestration framework, are expected to become available to early-access customers during the second half of 2026.
