Jabra recently announced a total of 4 new TWS earbuds to the market – and one of it that immediately caught my attention is the Jabra Elite 2 – particularly its price of only RM299.
I thought – wow, something from Jabra at only RM299? That’s too good to be true, right? Let’s find out.
Okay, looking at the box – it’s good to know that Jabra didn’t skimp out on the packaging design. It’s very minimalist and opens up in a fairly similar way to the Jabra Elite 75t that we reviewed last year.
That aside, the only things we should take note of are the USB-C cable and also the variety of eartip sizes that are sealed in this interesting plastic shell.
Okay, taking a look at the Jabra Elite 2 itself – we have a pretty similar-looking case as what we’ve seen previously on the Elite 75t. The material, however, is now made out of matte plastic. It’s also more hollow than before – but again, not a big deal.
But, the Elite 2’s case does have a few upgrades over the Elite 75t – particularly the location of the indicator LED that is now placed at the front instead of the back, like it previously was. This new design just makes so much more sense.
Opening up the case – it’s good to know that Jabra didn’t skimp out on the hinge as it is still able to open nicely and has a little lock when it’s opened completely – so it wouldn’t close back or become floppy.
The earbuds themselves though, are pretty standard in terms of design. I really want to highlight its comfort because its comfort is actually excellent. You see, Jabra prided themselves over the shape of the earbuds with their Elite 75t and Elite 85t. Now, they brought that design to the Elite 2 as well. It’s not the exact same design, but it’s comfortable nonetheless.
Also, please choose the correct eartip size so it wouldn’t fall off your ears.
Sound quality. In default EQ, I just love how it sounds. The bass is punchy but not overwhelming, the vocals and treble is also very clear and defined. I can enjoy my usual big band jazz on the Jabra Elite 2 peacefully – and I love that.
By the way, it also uses Qualcomm’s aptX codec so you can expect better sound quality overall.
But that’s not all – the Jabra Elite 2 can also be connected to Jabra’s Sound+ app. There are a few things that I want to share with you in this app.
There are a few customizations available – like these 6 preset EQs for you to choose from. There is no customizable EQ but I don’t see a need for it since the neutral EQ is what I used while reviewing the Elite 2 since it sounded perfect out of the box – at least for me personally.
Then, there’s an interactive user manual. You can see what’s the gestures available for the left and right earbud buttons. The functionality available here is pretty basic – and I personally will not use it as I don’t like how the button is designed for the Jabra Elite 2. The entire rubbery material wraps around the top housing of the earbud, and the button is just extremely difficult to press.
As a quick mention, you can use the Jabra Elite 2 in mono mode – but only for the right earbud.
One of the gestures available on the Jabra Elite 2 is to invoke the assistance of your choice. You can either use it with the dedicated Amazon Alexa assistant or just use whatever you defaulted on your phone.
You can also change the button to become a Spotify button so it will play your music when you press it.
The Jabra Elite 2 also allows independent volume controls but I ended up not using it since the button is just way too difficult to press – as what we’ve talked about earlier.
And let’s not forget about Jabra’s history. They’re famous for equipment in the office for meetings, call centers, and all of those applications – so their microphones need to be excellent. The Jabra Elite 2 is no exception too. We have a microphone sample embedded in the video version of this review.
And since the Elite 2 is able to connect to the Jabra Sound+ app, there is an option to update the TWS earbuds firmware too. I was surprised by this as that means Jabra could potentially refine the sound and prolong the battery life of the Elite 2 in the future.
Also as a quick sidenote – did you know that Jabra pushed an update to the Jabra Elite 75t to have a really fantastic ANC feature? That update was pushed many moons after it was released.
Lastly – for the battery life. I got about 7-8 hours of battery is easy at a comfortable listening volume and the case is able to charge it for nearly 3 more times. This is pretty much in line with that Jabra claims on the specs sheet too.
Should you buy the Jabra Elite 2?
For the price of just RM299, I am thoroughly impressed by what Jabra has to offer with the Elite 2. Sure, it’s not perfect – the button on the earbuds sucks but seriously – just press it on your phone instead. It’s not a huge deal and I can definitely overlook that.
The Elite 2 shines in sound quality, its microphone, and also the Jabra Sound+ app. Having the ability to update the Elite 2’s firmware is a huge boon as it allows constant improvement and refinement of its existing product – thus allowing better aftersales support and creating happy customers.
Jabra could potentially bring new features to the Elite 2 via firmware updates, but I won’t bank on it as the Elite 2 is already fantastic as it is right now, for the price of only RM299.
