A few weeks ago, my SD card died. It was some random brand that I bought about a year ago because it was at a good price. I then realized my mistake – SD cards, especially when in use for our Sony A7c for video recording, needs to be reliable. That is of utmost importance and I immediately discarded my unreliable SD card and got the Kingston Canvas React Plus SD card.

The main reasons why I got this SD card is because of two things – reliability and speed. Kingston SD cards are known to be one of the best and Kingston is also the top leader in terms of SSD shipments. And since Kingston is the master of memory products, I’m confident that they’re able to provide a great experience. The Canvas React Plus is also Kingston’s highest-end SD card, so I got the 128GB variant.

This is a V90 card and can go up to 300MB/s – but we’ll be the judge of that when we benchmark it in a while.

We’re filming videos at 1080p 60fps (for now) and it can already take many minutes to transfer just a few footages. Just imagine when we go over to 4K 30fps – that’ll make the file size even larger, and let’s not talk about 4K 60fps first. In a way, this SD card gives us flexibility if we choose to go for those resolutions.

The packaging is simple as ever – and it just contains an SD card. Nothing much to talk about.

The benchmarks though, is definitely interesting. We’re using ATTO SSD, CrystalDiskMark, and also AS SSD to test its speeds.

From what we found out on CrystalDiskMark, its sequential read speed can indeed reach 300MB/s, whereas the sequential read speed is at around 290MB/s. Very good speeds overall, and video files are mostly sequential too.

Other benchmarks shows great speeds as well – and I am very pleased with its performance. It will live in my Sony A7c, replacing my dead SD card while also letting me know why having a reliable SD card is of utmost importance.

Should you buy the Kingston Canvas React Plus SD card?

Yes. The answer is yes. It’s definitely pricey, though. Other SD cards start from around half the price of other 128GB cards is about only RM50, whereby this Kingston Canvas React Plus starts at around RM115, and the 512GB is at around RM410.

It is definitely at a premium price, but don’t skimp out on SD cards, especially if it’s in use with a camera or similar device. Imagine—a few hours of footage gone to waste just because of an SD card failure. That happened to me.
