I never thought this day would come – both the Moto Z and Moto Z Play are now official in Malaysia! This potentially big comeback from Motorola is mostly catalysed by the Moto Mods – a bunch of different modules for both devices.
Moto Z
Amazingly, this is a 5.5-inch quad-HD resolution Super AMOLED display with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipset powering the entire phone. Coupled with 4GB of RAM, the Moto Z’s performance is definitely up in the charts.
At the back, it has a 13MP f/1.8 camera with OIS and laser autofocus, whereas the front has a 5MP wide-angle lens with extra flash. Additionally, there’s also a fingerprint reader at the front.
It is Razr (pun intended) thin – at just 5.2mm. Now, this thinness is without its additional Moto Mods, and it packs a 2,600mAh battery. It’s already good enough actually, since it does use FinFET (learn more here). Additionally, you can get a Moto Mod to give your Moto Z massive amounts of extra juice.
Oh right – the it’s is also splash resistant. It’s priced at RM 2,699.
Moto Z Play
The Moto Z Play looks very similar to its other brother, but its guts are very different. Firstly, the Moto Z Play comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset (which also uses FinFET, same as the ASUS ZenFone 3), 3GB RAM, 5.5-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display. All of these are powered by a humongous 3,510 mAh battery!
Then there’s the camera. For some reason, the Moto Z Play has a 16MP camera with laser autofocus and PDAF, whilst maintaining the front-facing wide-angle camera with LED flash.

- Moto Z and Moto Z Play will be available for pre-order on 11street and Lazada starting 4 November.
- The first 50 pre-order customers on each etailer will receive a JBL® SoundBoost Speaker Mod for free with purchase of the Moto Z or Moto Z Play.
- Moto Z, Moto Z Play and Moto Mods will be available from end November.
