It’s funny to see what dropped into our email just now – a press release regarding the AMD Ryzen! Not just the typical “Ryzen is here” that everyone has been posting, but regarding the AMD Ryzen 5. This is the processor series that I’m certain that most people are aiming for.
That’s because the Ryzen 7 series a compelling option for video editors and streamers – those who need the high core count. However, not everyone needs that intensive core count, and that’s where the AMD Ryzen 5 comes in.
The Ryzen 5 1600X seems like a compelling idea, actually. With a 3.6GHz base clock and being able to boost up to 4.0GHz, which is the same clock speeds as the Ryzen 7 1800X. The only difference here is the lower core count and threads of 6 cores and 12 threads on the AMD Ryzen 5 1600X. This pits it somewhere in between the Intel Core i7 and X99 chips in terms of core count.
The Ryzen 5 1500X is another compelling option, as the core count has dropped even further to 4 cores and 8 threads with a base clock of 3.5GHz and boosts up to 3.7GHz, while only rated at 65W TDP. The Ryzen 5 1500X is definitely the processor that is placed against the more budget-oriented Core i5 and Core i7.

It seems that AMD will be including Wraith Spire cooler on all of their Ryzen 5 series of chips too. We’re not sure if these Ryzen 5 chips can be overclocked or not.
While AMD has been pretty silent about the details of Ryzen 5 chips, I’m surprised they just send out the information in the press release instead of having some sort of mini-event or announcements. Obviously, no exact price or availability is announced yet.
UPDATE: AMD has sent us more information regarding the price, specs, and included cooler.
Exciting times to be building a new rig – as all of the 4 different models of AMD Ryzen 5 will be available this April 11 worldwide. What about the price, you asked? Here’s all the information you need to know.

Prices are crazily low – and I can already smell Intel’s fear in my room now. Actually – wait, I just heard my i5-6400 crying… Oh well, I have no time for a crybaby processor. Ryzen will replace it soon.
