Rovio had recently released another game that has totally different idea from their famous Angry Birds series. Unlike Angry Birds or Amazing Alex, this game had taken a different approach based on the movie The Croods produced by Dreamworks. If you’re a SimCity lover or you simply enjoy the movie, you should probably check it out.
The objective of the game is to collect resources, build traps that allows you to capture animals, which then you will need to build them houses after you tame them. The tamed animals will in return produce different kind of resources that allows you to explore the game more. Basically, what you can do in this game is:
- Collecting resources
- Capture animals and taming them
- Feeding the animals and upgrading them
- Complete quest
Overall, the graphic on this game is amazing. No chance to try it on a 1080p phone yet, but it should look even better. The game is really addictive as this review is being written while the game is on. Once started, there is no turning back as you will always have the thought of “it’s time to collect resources!”.
Despite the great graphic and the fresh idea, the game itself has a few flaws that are affecting the game play. First of all, the game requires internet connection while being played. This is very inconvenient as sometimes the internet line is bad, it will take quite some time to load the game. This brings us to the second problem, as the game will auto cache when the screen is off. This causes the game to synchronize with the server once the screen is off and it will take a lot of time to reload the game again once the screen is on again. Quite a number of times while waiting for resources and the screen turn off, the game will require another round of synchronization before you can resume the game. Then, the third problem is the gem system. The game allows you to speed up the animals to produce the resources, in exchange of gems that requires real cash. The button is being put so close together that sometimes it was be pressed accidentally. The lack of confirmation or warning messages caused gems to be directly deducted without any chance of stopping it.
Overall, the game is great and addictive. It’s a totally fresh approach and the timing of release is great as people are crazy over SimCity now. It’s like a portable SimCity on your phone. Kudos to Rovio as this is considered one of the best game that is being released recently. More pictures after the break!
