In GDC 2016, AMD’s “Capsaicin” event was based on one single problem alone – the development of games through their Mantle API, particularly on Vulkan and Liquid VR technology. Now that we’re mentioning VR, there’s actually 83% of all the VR systems globally that’s powered by AMD at heart. Amazed? I sure am.
Architecture roadmap
With that said, AMD teased us the Polaris-based GPUs once again, but this time with future architectures and brief details mentioned in a single, most important second on the Capsaicin event.
Introducing Vega and Navi, both with their very own unique features, with Navi being the most mysterious. Scalability in terms of what? Next-gen memory after HBM – something like Intel’s XPoint technology? Only the future will tell, but the future is definitely with high framerates on low wattage.
Radeon Pro Duo
It’s finally here – the brand new Radeon Pro Duo, where it’s a current-generation AMD GPU that features a dual-core GPU, and HBM too.
16TFlops with Radeon VR Ready certification, and also the first ever workstation-class card that features high bandwidth memory, or HBM, for short. The Radeon Pro Duo here even has double Fiji-based processors, a total of 8GB worth of HBM, and 4 DisplayPorts (!!!) to hook it up too every single display you have.
AMD even remade Razer’s famous “for gamers by gamers” to “For gamers who create and creators who game“, which I think makes way more sense.
Sulon Q
Even though AMD is powering 83% of all the VR headsets in the world, none of them are made like how Sulon did. It’s not your typical VR headset – oh no, this VR has absolutely no cables, and can also be enjoyed in AR mode instead of VR!
The Sulon Q is powered by an AMD FX-800P processor (up to 35W) and a Radeon R7 graphics GPU with AMD’s GCN architecture. It even has 1440 display! Without question, The Sulon Q even integrates AMD’s LiquidVR Technology too, to ensure butter smooth and responsive VR and AR experiences.
Hey – the Sulon Q is not too far away too – it’s coming this Spring!
