Sure we’ve played with many wireless speakers in the past, but this is Sony’s brand new addition to their EXTRA BASS lineup – which I think is quite a bold addition.
Let’s be honest here, wireless speakers are always small, and for them to have extra bass isn’t particularly easy in the first place – because there’s just now much space for them to generate the low frequency in the chamber. However, Sony managed to do it with their SRS-XB2 and SRS-XB3 speakers, which are fantastically beautiful to look at. Both the SRS-XB2 and SRS-XB3 are so-called modern day boomboxes, but they’re more colourful and minimalistic in terms of aesthetics, and comes with deep, punchy sounds too.
SRS-XB2
It looks like a small-sized speaker, but with the specs sheet in hand, it really is a formidable portable speaker. The SRS-XB2 is a 2.0 speaker with 1 passive radiator, with the speaker size at approximately 42mm in diameter. The size of the speaker is at 191x62x65mm in size, with its weight at approximately 0.48kg. Not bad. Hey – it’s also water-resistant and has a battery life of what Sony claims to be 12 hours.
Other than that, it has an EXTRA BASS switch to toggle it on/off, Clear Audio+ mode and also DSEE mode. Even has NFC for easy pairing too. The SRS-XB2 is priced at RM339, and comes in red, yellow gree, blue, light brown, and black colour. Also, Sony implemented the double-up feature too, where you can literally double-up the sound by pairing two SRS-XB2 together.
SRS-XB3
This is actually the bigger brother of the two, and the SRS-XB3 packs an even more rugged look compared to the SRS-XB2. The SRS-XB3 packs 2.0 channel speaker, but this time has 2 passive radiators. Also comes with 48mm diameter speaker size too. The SRS-XB3 is a tad larger, with its dimensions at about 211x80x83mm, and also just a tad shy of doubling the weight from the other speaker, as the SRS-XB3 weighs in at 0.93kg.
Both speakers also come with the same connectivity and interface (with NFC included of course), but the SRS-XB3 has what Sony claimed to be a 24-hour battery life, and has a power consumption of approximately 30W. 30W! That’s really high for a portable speaker! Of course, the SRS-XB3 is water-resistant too.
And yes, comes in some dank colour choices too, and priced at RM499. Check out the SRS-XB3 here!
