Let’s be honest here. Pokemon GO is a game that many of us had been waiting for. We’ve waited for the release of Pokemon GO, but many were disappointed. There’s only one explanation though.
We’ve been hit with quite a few compatibility issues, given that Niantic Lab’s Pokemon GO is a game that solely depends on AR. AR if you don’t know, is augmented reality. It takes image from the camera and overlay them with computer graphics, or information. AR is neat – but it does take a hell lot of processing power. Also, there are certain instruction sets needed to be hardwired into the chipset for Pokemon GO to work. We did explain on how these instruction sets work here.
Niantic Labs themselves published the entire compatibility list on their website, and broke our hearts.
Android
- Android 4.4 to Android 6.0.1
(Android N will not supported until the official Android release) - Preferred resolution of 720×1280 pixels (Not optimized for tablet)
- Strong internet connection (Wi-Fi, 3G, or 4G)
- GPS and Location Services
- Intel CPUs are not supported
iOS
- iPhone 5+
- iOS 8+
- Strong internet connection (Wi-Fi, 3G, or 4G)
- GPS and Location Services
- Jailbroken devices are not supported
Damn, that jab. I think the most insanely hurtful fact is the last point on both Android and iOS checklist. Intel CPUs are not supported. ASUS ZenFone 2 and the ZenFone Zoom is definitely out of the list already, so don’t ask me anymore about this. Jailbroken iOS devices are not supported outright. No idea why though, but they just struck the banhammer on jailbroken devices.
Ouch, indeed. Painful!
