USB Type-C, or USB-C for short, is taking over the world now. There’s no denial that USB-C devices are getting more and more common, and its prices are also going down through the days. That said, these new Transcend USB-C storages are just in time for those who have devices that only supports USB-C, like the Nexus 5X/6P.
There are actually a total of 5 devices here from 3 different family of storage options. These range from their OTG flash drives to card readers, and even external hard disks. These new Transcend USB-C are quite affordable too, actually.
JetFlash 850S/JetFlash 890S
Firstly, the JetFlash OTG drives gets an update. Both the JF850S (only single USB-C port) and the JF890S (USB-C on one end, USB 3.1 Gen 1 on the other side) got upgrades as they’re now available in capacities of 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB respectively. These OTG drives are really useful for in my opinion, and I personally have an OTG cable keyring clipped onto my backpack at all times. Saved me quite a lot of time at certain occasions already by the way.
It has transfer speeds up to 130MB/s too. They’re both covered with Transcend’s limited lifetime warranty, and prices for both the JF850S and JF890S are listed as below:
| Capacity | ||||
| 16GB | 32GB | 64GB | ||
| Model | JetFlash 850S (JF850S) | RM75 | RM105 | RM165 |
| JetFlash 890S (JF890S) | RM79 | RM109 | RM169 | |
RDC8K/RDC2K
These are both card readers and they both work on USB-C, and I think you already knew that. However, these two card readers are tiny in size, and they revolve around reading SDHC cards. These card readers are obviously aimed at creatives!
They got it right too – as the RDC2K is an OTG card reader for USB-C devices, and also features another USB-A port for users to connect some other peripheral to the phone itself. It’s more like a card reader and USB hub merged into a single product. Transcend calls this as “smart reader”.
The RDC8K however is a dedicated card reader that reads compact flash (CF), SD cards, micro SD cards, and even Sony’s Memory Stick cards.
RDC8K is priced at RM109, whereas the RDC2K is priced at RM99. Both of these devices comes with a 3-year limited warranty.
StoreJet 25MC
Remember the military-grade external hard disk we reviewed not long ago? Transcend took that aspect, and pimped it up to USB-C standards. Now, the Transcend StoreJet 25MC features SuperSpeed USB 3.1 Gen 1 interface for all your high-speed data transfers!
Currently it’s only available in 1TB capacity, and it’s backed with Transcend’s 3 year limited warranty too. Price is at RM339!
