I expect Mountain Dew to know that they themselves are a crucial part of the MLG meme now. You know – that meme where MLG players eat Doritos and drink Mountain Dew. Anyway, Dew Challenge 2016 is bringing in some serious cash onto the table! We’re talking RM200,000 – yes, two hundred thousand.
Some key highlights here:
- Mountain Dew Challenge 2016 brings back DoTA 2 Tournament and introduces a new Mobile Gaming Challenge this year (more on this sometime this week)
- RM150,000 will be awarded for the DOTA 2 champions and RM50,000 for the Mountain Dew Mobile Gaming Challenge champion
It’s definitely great to see companies embracing technology and having their own tournament. Last year, Mountain Dew gave MidOne an opportunity to rise up to the fame through their Dota 2 challenge. On the brink of giving up, MidOne gave it one last chance and entered the Dew Challenge. He actually won the finals, and scored an offer on Fnatic and was placed 4th on TI 2016. He then left Fnatic and joined Team Secret!
Both the DoTA 2 and mobile gaming challenges will both take place in the following states:
- Kuala Lumpur on 12 and 13 November 2016
- Kuantan on 19 and 20 November
- Johor on 25 and 26 November
All the selected teams from DoTA 2 challenge in the respective states will then compete at the group stage level which will be held on 9 December 2016. After which, the top eight teams will battle it out at the finals for a RM150,000 prize pool which will be held on 10 and 11 December 2016 in Kuala Lumpur. As for the mobile gaming challenge, top 10 scorers from each state will be selected and they will battle it out at the final for RM50,000 prize money which will be held on 11 December 2016 in Kuala Lumpur.
