The ever-growing trend of NVMe SSDs being adopted by the mass market is true and it’s happening now. Storage solution manufacturers are hopping on the NVMe SSD bandwagon, and for us consumers, competition is always good. The Apacer PT920 COMMANDO is one of the competitors in the PCIe Gen. 3 x4 NVMe SSD market while looking extra eccentric to catch everyone’s attention.
Without getting into any of those fancy marketing terms, the Apacer PT920 COMMANDO is actually an MLC-based NVMe SSD with read/write speeds of up to 2500MB/s and 1300MB/s respectively. Apacer also claims that the PT920 COMMANDO has a random write of 175,000 IOPS to ensure super-speedy and responsive loading times too, since they are marketing the Apacer PT920 COMMANDO as a gaming-centric SSD.
Speaking of gaming-centric SSD, have you seen the design of the Apacer PT920 COMMANDO? I’m not sure if that’s just a shroud or the actual heatsink itself, but wow, Apacer says that it’s shaped after an assault rifle and says that it has a thoughtfully designed cooling system that’ll provide excellent heat dissipation too. I’m not sure how true is that, but it’s certainly interesting to have something different other than the plain old PCB on a riser card type of PCIe SSD.
And hey – it’s 2017 yet there’s no RGB? It would be unacceptable for quite a lot of people.

Before you proceed and say that the Apacer PT920 COMMANDO looks like a staple gun, well, you’re not the first. On the flipside, that little handle bar makes it easier to pull out the NVMe SSD from its PCIe slot, actually.
