The family of brands under the Western Digital umbrella is growing by the day – and today we got the opportunity to witness two new products – one from WD and one from SanDisk.
WD My Passport Wireless SSD
This is one product that debuted in the market for quite some time and we actually reviewed that and the generation after. Continuing the series’s magic, WD releases the new My Passport Wireless SSD. It still has the wireless functionality with the SD card reader at the side – but it’s vastly improved by using and SSD instead of a rotating hard disk.
At full speed, the WD My Passport Wireless SSD can go up to 390MB/s read speed.
The new My Passport Wireless SSD has the same ports as the My Passport Wireless Pro from before – a USB Type-A, a USB 3.0, an on/off button, and another button to copy all files from the SD card to the My Passport Wireless SSD or to check battery.
What’s different now is that the WD My Passport Wireless SSD is super durable. It has a new shock-resistant enclosure that wraps around the plastic shell. Since there are no moving parts in an SSD, the My Passport Wireless SSD can be dropped from 1 meter of height while it’s operating.
It has a battery life of up to 10 hours of continuous use and can wirelessly stream videos or view photos – including RAW format – with the My Cloud app that is available for both Android and iOS.
The My Passport Wireless SSD is backed by a 2-year limited warranty and will be available by the end of July in retail stores and online stores including Lazada, 11street, and Shopee. As for the price, it varies by capacity:
- 250GB @ RM1,099
- 500GB @ RM1,499
- 1TB @ RM2,299
- 2TB @ RM3,699
SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD
It’s a portable SSD – that’s it, right? No, not really. The new SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD comes with a transfer sped of up to 550MB/s read speeds – and it has an IP55 rating as well. The new SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD has an interesting design that it clearly is meant to be clipped or hooked onto a backpack or your belt. Get a carabiner and this SSD will survive dust and water splashes.
What’s more interesting is that the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD comes with a single USB-C port only. In the box, you’ll get a USB-C to USB-C cable and a USB-C to USB-A cable. That way, you can use this SSD even if your PC isn’t ready for USB-C yet.
The SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD is backed by a 3-year limited warranty and is available in the market now in retail stores and online stores like Lazada, 11street, and Shopee. The price varies depending on the capacity:
- 250GB @ RM529
- 500GB @ RM829
- 1TB @ RM1,699
- 2TB @ RM3,299
