In today’s breaking news, Facebook has announced that its Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp to be able to communicate across each other without leaving the app of your choice. How this works is still unknown, but the concept is there.
All of these 3 communication apps are owned by one company – and that is Facebook. These 3 platforms have more than 2.6 billion users combined and yet they are all owned by one single parent company. That means I do not have to install another application just to talk with some friends over at WhatsApp.
However, by combining all of these 3 platforms, it means that either Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp will face competition among themselves since they are both very similar in essence.
According to The New York Times, it was revealed that this cross-platform communication integration will only happen at the end of this year or 2020 as it will require many employees of Facebook to “reconfigure how WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook Messenger function at their most basic levels” which does impose a lot of labor cost to make this shift.
