Quantum computing has now become the ultimate goal for scientists on earth. Achieving a practical quantum computer is going to push humanity forward faster than ever in terms of intelligence, evolution and understanding of the universe.

Google and NASA are now hand in hand to achieve the ultimate goal of computer technology. Google has just announced a partnership with NASA to build a lab that will have quantum computing technology that will ultimately answer problems with artificial intelligence.

Quantum computers work with quibits instead of the conventional bits. A bit can be I or O (one or zero) but quibits can be one, zero or anything in between! If you are familiar with the Schrödinger’s cat theory, you might know that this means that a single quibit can be one and zero at the same time. This gives quantum computer to have the ability to perform many calculations at the same time which makes them way way way faster than conventional computers. A calculation that could take years can be done in seconds!

The new Google + NASA lab will have a 512-quibit quantum computer, D-Wave Two.

“We hope it helps researchers construct more efficient and more accurate models for everything from speech recognition, to web search, to protein folding. We actually think quantum machine learning may provide the most creative problem-solving process under the known laws of physics.”

I am already imagining voice responsive artificial intelligence like IBM’s Watson that could potentially answer to any question we have when developing certain cures for example.
