Okay, I’ll be honest, it is a medical tricorder. Scanadu Scout is the name. The device works by scanning your vital signs and transfer the data to your smartphone. It can detect heart rate, body temperature, respiratory rate, blood pressure, ECG and emotional stress level. All of the data will be extracted by simply placing the device(probe?) on the patient’s forehead.
The real tricoder is actually your smartphone, a device which is already available in today’s market. The thing that makes it a medical tricorder is the medical probe like you see in Star Trek. The Scanadu Scout is kinda like the probe.
As for now, the technology is not yet a legitimate medical diagnostic device. Not until at least FDA(Food and Drug Administration) approves.
Scanadu is currently under an Indiegogo campaign to get help on obtaining data and also to help the product to make it into consumer’s hand. The data have to be large enough so that they can submit to FDA for approval in which they will obtain from volunteers at Scanadu’s headquarters.
