Samsung Electronics just announced a bunch of new TVs ahead of CES. These TVs are from multiple different lineups, including the MicroLED, 8K QLED, and also other lifestyle TVs. Samsung has been at the forefront of 8K TVs as they also invited us to have an afternoon with the 8K AI upscaling with the Q900R last year. And now at CES2020, Samsung is showing how their new lineup for 2020 can redefine immersion and revolutionize home integration.
Pioneering MicroLED into the home entertainment market
The new modular MicroLED panels are now home-ready, which combines next-generation screen technology with unprecedented customization capabilities. With 75-,88-, 93-, and 110-inch display sizes, the MicroLED panels are suitable for a variety of homes and lifestyles.
There are also new 88- and 150-inch MicroLED models that introduce ultra-slim bezel, which virtually removed all four sides of the bezels. The display blends into the wall – literally. You can also connect multiple MicroLED panels together to create new combinations and adapt to any living space.
Samsung promises MicroLEDs to have the best-in-class picture quality with greater depth, better resolution, and higher clarity with a peak brightness of 5,000 nits. Of course, it also utilizes Samsung’s upscaling abilities based on deep-learning to deliver the highest-quality content, regardless of the source.
Expanded 8K QLED lineup with new AI Quantum Processor 8K and design
Introducing – Samsung’s new flagship TV. The Q950TS QLED 8K TV is the industry’s first 8K TV to combine a striking, ultra-thin form factor, premium 8K picture quality, and impressive surround-sound audio. Plus, the Q950TS introduces the new virtually bezel-less design, dubbed “Infinity Screen“. This produces a 99% screen-to-body ratio.
It delivers stunning 8K resolution with the best LCD picture quality on the market. Equipped with the AI Quantum Processor 8K to upscale the content to 8K resolution with the best of its ability thanks to deep-learning capabilities. With a feature called Adaptive Picture, it can also optimize the screen to both ambient conditions and individual images. And the AI Quantum Processor – the powerhouse behind the flagship display – is also helping to power Samsung’s open smart home platform, Tizen, enabling users to experience everything from enhanced picture quality to heightened usability to other connected home functions.
To further support for 8K resolution, the Q950TS also supports 8K content playback from providers like YouTube. This is a big deal since Samsung will have to integrate the AV1 codec into its hardware to enable seamless playback capability. Using AV1 codec, it has better compression rates, and enables the support of HDR10+ technology, image dimensionality, brightness optimization, and contrast ratio.
Samsung’s “The Sero” lineup of lifestyle TV
To further expand the TV lineup, Samsung has announced The Sero. It literally means “vertical” in Korean, and it can rotate itself – so that it supports both horizontal or vertical orientations – like a smartphone or tablet.
This TV was first available in South Korea last year, and Samsung is set to expand The Sero’s availability to several other markets in 2020.
The main logic behind this pivoting system is for the contents filmed vertically can be viewed on a big-screen TV, just like a mobile device. This includes content from social media, YouTube and other personal videos.
