Samsung is infamous for their well-known all-plastic build qualities, but then there was a rumour spreading around saying that the Galaxy S IV originally had a non-plastic build prototype. That was not the official version of the Galaxy S IV due to the manufacturing time, so instead they made the all-plastic as the official Galaxy S IV.
Though a new press release was issued, saying that the rugged Galaxy S IV version was not entirely laid to rest. It is now known as the Galaxy S IV Active, with slightly different specs. Check out the image below for more details.

Being a rugged phone itself, this phone is qualified for dust and water protection. It features a fully sealed design, just like how the Xperia Z is, and can be underwater for 30 minutes under a meter of depth.
As of now, the differences that we can see are the rear-facing camera, which is an 8MP camera versus the 13MP of the Galaxy S IV, and also the screen which the Active only uses an LCD screen with 443 ppi. The camera also has another extra feature called Aqua Mode, where you can take photos underwater with “increase visual quality and clarity for enhanced underwater images and video”.
Everything else – in terms of software – does indeed look the same as the Galaxy S IV.
The Galaxy S IV Active will be shown in the Samsung Premiere 2013 GALAXY & ATIV event in London this 20th June, Thursday.
Availability in Malaysia is not yet known, but Samsung stated that this phone will be available in the beginning of summer, initially for U.S. and Sweden first, with 3 distinctive colour options. Price is also not yet known, as Samsung also stated that the specifications are varied according to countries.
