The Movement Control Order has made online entertainment more important and impactful than ever for Malaysians as everyone is seeking videos, movies or clips to watch on platforms such as Youtube, Netflix or TikTok while bringing family members closer together.
TikTok has announced that they are adding parental control to their app called Family Pairing that aims to protect younger users from getting exposed to cyber dangers while not getting too addicted – or fall prey to indecent acts.
Parental Control + QR Code = Family Pairing!
First off, parents will need to set up a network for the family by selecting the Parent. Children will choose Teen instead and proceed to scan the QR code presented on the Parent device. Repeat for all Teen devices to finish up the pairing process. Several functions can be limited such as content type, watch time and restricted mode.
Alongside the Family Pairing feature, starting April 30, TikTok will ramp up protection towards underaged users who are 16 and below that have their Direct Messaging inbox disabled to prevent creepers from sending inappropriate clips to them.
If the chat history is needed for record purposes, there will be an export function for requesting them. Parents will appreciate the measure taken by the company.
By the way, during the next 2 days, there will be a special live stream by TikTok featuring Dato’ Sri Siti Nurhaliza and Fattah Amin. Mark your calendars if you are interested in joining.
