What we have today is interesting. Edifier has been in the audio market for a long time. They’ve been selling speakers for many years – and I have a set of speaker from them that’s more than a decade old. And today, we have the Edifier Hecate GM4 and they’re claiming that it’s made for gaming. Literally, that claim is on the box itself.
So, we won’t be fully reviewing the Edifier Hecate GM4. But instead, we’ll be doing an audio latency test after unboxing it.

Thing is, the Edifier Hecate GM4 has a big design flaw. The lid curves back, which really defeats the purpose of having the lid opening up to a great degree of angle. And this charging case could’ve been more than just a TWS charging case if it doubles as a mouse – because as it is now, it looks like a mini mouse.
Also, the charging case looks like a doorstopper…
Whichever the case may be, the Edifier Hecate GM4 does have gaming mode. According to the Audio Tester app (which gives a very rough estimation of latency) tells us that with gaming mode turned on, the latency goes down to about 100ms. When gaming mode is turned off, the delay goes back up to nearly 300ms.
This tells us that the gaming mode does a pretty good job in terms of lowering the latency – but comes at a cost, and that’s the audio quality. You see, the Edifier Hecate GM4 doesn’t have aptX codec support. My guess is that Edifier locked it down to SBC only, and they can control and lower the audio bitrate when gaming mode is turned on.
Either way, a smart move from Edifier and they managed to get the latency low. However, if you’re serious about gaming and require perfect sync between the animations and audio, then I still suggest you get wired earphones or headphones.
Nonetheless, the Edifier Hecate GM4 is priced at RM199 only and it’s just a fantastic pair of true wireless earbuds – if you don’t mind some latency.
