Qualcomm has introduced 4 new SoCs for its popular Snapdragon platform that powers the majority of smart gadgets and devices around the world.
As we know it, the first one is the Snapdragon 778G+ 5G which is architectural exactly the same as the 778G 5G but with higher CPU and GPU frequency to squeeze that little performance without drastically changing stuff. In case you don’t know, Qualcomm does the “+” denotation for other chipsets for the same reason as well. For the 600 series family, the Snapdragon 695 5G is a one-step upgrade from the previous 690 5G model and carries computing performance as much as 15% for the CPU and 30% for the GPU while packing 5G features such as mmWave and sub-6GHz 5G support.
On the other hand, the Snapdragon 680 4G is a completely new member of the family built on the 6nm process that packs the Kryo 265 CPU and Adreno 610 GPU with a standard X11 LTE modem and among other things. As it is capable of providing a 90Hz refresh rate at FHD+ resolution, we could be seeing exactly that sort of configuration become either more accessible by allowing budget devices to run them or just overall reducing the cost of manufacturing a mid-range smartphone and subsequently flattening the final cost when it reaches the consumer’s hands. Lastly, the Snapdragon 480+ 5G, as we talked mentioned earlier, is just a slightly “binned” 480 5G for better overall performance.
From the looks of it, brands that have given their voice about these new offerings such as HMD Global, Honor, Motorola, OPPO, Vivo, and Xiaomi could already have new devices within R&D so expect to see these new SoCs debut in the coming months.
