The dongle life is not going anywhere. Even with the latest MacBook Pro with more ports brought back to the laptop, there are no USB-A ports and no Ethernet port. That is why we’ll still need hubs like this – the Ugreen 9-in-1 HDMI Ethernet USB-C Hub (CM179).
If I’m not mistaken, this hub is Ugreen’s highest-end offering as it now comes with a total of 9 different ports that we’ll all need:
- 3x USB 3.0 Type-A
- 1x HDMI (capable of 4K 60Hz)
- 1x VGA
- 1x Ethernet
- 1x SD card reader
- 1x microSD card reader
- 1x USB-C for charging
The most important highlight here is the 4K 60Hz output through HDMI as many other USB-C dongles are only capable of outputting 4K 30Hz. That’s just a quirk when it comes to dongles.
Moreover, this dongle also comes with high-speed USB-A ports alongside a dedicated USB-C charging port that can support up to 100W. Dongle consolidation is a plus point that I think many people will like as we do not need to sacrifice another USB-C port for charging.
For creators out there, it also comes with both SD card and microSD card readers – and that is something that I appreciate. I mean, we can’t have too many SD card readers now, can we?
As for the one remaining side of the dongle, we have an HDMI port that is capable of outputting 4K 60Hz signal, a VGA port for those who are still using legacy products like supremely old projectors in the office, and lastly – an Ethernet port if you need it.
Seriously though – the price of RM188.85 might sound a bit daunting now – but I think it’s worth the price. It provides more than enough ports for most users and honestly speaking – it can benefit my use case too as my laptop needs more USB ports.
