As the year 2021 comes to a close, we can say that while this year has been quite similar to the last since our lives have been transformed around centering the principle of social distancing and taking everything into the digital online world whenever it is applicable. As with large-scale digital transition, there’s bound to be lots of online searching happening around the world and that includes Malaysia too. Let’s find out what are the popular Google Search results for our country.
For the general Top 10 list, it is not surprised that i-Sinar took the 1st place while other similar terms like i-Citra, Bantuan Prihatin Rakyat, i-Akaun, Bantuan Prihatin Nasional – all of these financial aid-related key terms signifies how much the Movement Control Order (MCO) has impacted businesses and families. For the remaining scorers, it’s a bit of a mixed bag as the genre of entertainment, sports, and tech all filled into these slots.
As for COVID-19, it is surrounding the topic of daily reported case updates, nearby available vaccination venues, vaccine details, and MCO restrictions. But I’m personally surprised that COVID-19 variants are not on the list. Well, better go for the answer rather than understanding the question.
Being the outward nature, Malaysians continues to enjoy sports events especially soccer with the Euro 2021 taking the number 1 spot and English Premier League following behind. Meanwhile, the Olympics 2021 that features multiple sports seems to fall slightly behind NBA. I guess Malaysians still like to see balls flying here and there.
Specifically for athletes, local heroes Lee Zii Jia and Azizulhasni Awang took the top spots as they have been making moves in their respective sports departments while the Christian Eriksen’s momentary collapse during Denmark’s Euro 2020 opener against Finland and Britain’s ‘Tom Daley’ knitting in between diving events at the Tokyo Olympics did fan some curiosity in our country.
Lastly, for education, Google Classroom has been the more popular if not the most popular online class platform due to its versatility and integration within the Google ecosystem with classes of both public and private taking advantage of them while alternatives like ClassPoint and Classkick has been aiding some of the more minor groups in running a digital classroom. To my knowledge, some colleges have partnered with Microsoft uses Microsoft Teams to help fellow students especially those who are ready to graduate and move into the workforce during the endemic period adapting the professional suite at an earlier stage.
