In just a few years Netflix has gone from being a niche video streaming platform to one of the most well-known names in the entertainment and media industry. More importantly, this one service alone has completely changed the way people look at video streaming and it has actually converted a lot of people from being fans of TV and regular cable entertainment to being followers of video platforms. Whether you are looking to watch a movie, a documentary, or something educational, you can find it on Netflix.

However, while Netflix has become extremely popular in the UK and in America, it is not so popular in other regions of the world. To a large extent, this is because of the material that is available in those regions. The media that is on the American and the British Netflix catalog is not the same as what is offered to people in other regions. In fact, nearly all the content on Netflix is region-specific. So, if you want to watch an Indonesian documentary or see a local Indonesian show, you probably won’t be able to access it through a Netflix account that was registered in America.

1.  Finding What To Watch

Unless you don’t already have something very specific that you want to watch, which is not already available on your subscription, you are going to want to know what is available. You can either look for the best catalogs or you can look for specific things that you want to watch and see where they are available. This is important because you will then take measures in the proceeding steps accordingly. Also, if you are moving to a different place and want to watch things that are available in your home country, then you will need a solution that can give you access to those specific things. There isn’t one way in which you can access all the content from all over the world simultaneously.

2.  VPN

A VPN essentially masks your real location from the service provider so it seems that you are accessing the content from a different location. Just like many other countries in the world, in Indonesia, VPN is a solution that is commonly used for digital security but the same system can be used to access region-blocked content. For instance, if you want to watch American Netflix in Indonesia then you will set your VPN to show American content when you access the service. This way even though you are in Indonesia, Netflix will think you are an American audience and give you the same content that people in America can see.

3.  DNS

The main limitation with a VPN is the speed, especially if you are watching something in 4K, it can be quite slow to load. Even with a very good connection, you will notice that it is slow to load and it can be nearly impossible to enjoy watching something. This is because the VPN routes your traffic through a different server, essentially meaning that the data is processed at two locations rather than just one. DNS is going to be the perfect solution for demanding processes though you will need to check whether or not the DNS can access your desired content. Through a VPN you can access nearly every region in the world, however, DNS tends to be a little more restricted. Some regions might not be accessible at all through a DNS connection.

4.  Limitations

Both solutions have their pros and cons though the main thing you want to see is what will work for you. For both solutions, you can get paid or free versions and see how they work. Naturally, the free solutions will not provide as much functionality and they will also be limited in their operations. However, you can start with a free version and if it looks like it is getting the job done then you can definitely invest in a paid version of the service.

It’s also important to note that these solutions are not a replacement for an actual Netflix account. You will still need a valid and a working Netflix account to connect to these services so you can access the content. You are still paying for the service but you are paying for different content. Also, check with your local laws to ensure that using a VPN or DNS does not violate any laws. In some regions it doesn’t matter what you are viewing through the VPN, just having a VPN can land you in trouble. While the website you are visiting might not know, your ISP and anyone else in charge of your network will know that you are using a VPN.
