Within Xiaomi’s announcement of the new Redmi Note 11 series of smartphones, we have 4 different phones. We already reviewed both the Redmi Note 11 and the Redmi Note 11S – check it out at the top right corner – and today, we’ll only focus on the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G. That’s a mouthful of a name and we have to say out the entire name because there is a non-5G version too – and that’s an entirely different phone.

Anyway, we’ll focus on our 6 different points of a smartphone and see if this phone is worth your money.

Design

Okay, so the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G is a fairly simple phone overall. We’ll start off by talking about the design.

The Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G comes with a very fine matte finish at the back which feels good to the touch. It does catch some fingerprint and grime but they’re easily wiped off. The black color version of this phone looks very sleek too – though I personally want to see the Atlantic Blue color version as it has this kind of calm deep blue sea kind of aesthetic.

The shape is fairly simple too – a fairly squarish phone and has rounded corners, and I do like the flatness of both the front and back of the phone. However, the phone is also rather wide. A flat screen and a flat back means that the frame needs to be square. Combined with a wide phone which means it’ll never be comfortable to hold with one hand.

And that double camera bump at the back – I still think it looks ridiculous – just like the Redmi Note 11S.

Cameras

Speaking of the camera bump, we have a total of 3 different cameras at the back and I still consider only two cameras to be usable. 2MP fixed focus macro cameras shouldn’t exist anymore.

Performance

As for the performance, this Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G that we have comes with the Snapdragon 695 chipset. We’ve done our gaming test on this phone – and as explained there, the performance out of this chip is actually quite decent. When we played Genshin Impact, its performance is okay at the low or lowest graphical settings. I’d argue that the performance is somewhere around the Snapdragon 720G, which is already a few years old.

The thermals are also well-maintained as we saw its surface temperature is always below 40°C.

Battery

With its 5,000mAh, it lasts for a very long time – and I can assure you that the phone can last throughout a full day without any issues.

Charging time

As for the charging time though, the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G comes with a proprietary 67W charger and it took about an hour to charge from 15% to 100%. Comparing this speed with the Redmi Note 11 and the Redmi Note 11S that only has a 33W charger, it’s really not that much faster. The Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G isn’t even that much faster to reach the 50% mark either.

Still takes about an hour with the 67W charger.

Perhaps we should do a video about debunking myths of fast charging. Do let us know if you want to see us do that.

Screen

We also need to highlight about the screen. This Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G comes with a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen with up to 120Hz refresh rate and at the resolution of 1920×2400. This screen looks good, so no complaints overall – except for how the screen’s size make the phone wide and made it uncomfortable to hold.

Software – MIUI 13 with Android 11

As for the software – the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G does come with MIUI 13 pre-installed on top of Android 11 out of the box. Just like what we mentioned on the Redmi Note 11 and Redmi Note 11S review, everything applies here too.

Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G

Just as a quick recap – I seriously can’t find any significant difference compared to MIUI 12.5. The settings menu is still a mess, the annoying UI with the timer is still there, the malware scanner each time I install an app from the Google Play Store is also still there.

Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G
It’s not a straightforward answer.

As we mentioned before, I don’t care about the animations if the basics aren’t done correctly.

Finally, should you buy the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G?

It’s quite difficult to recommend, honestly. Compared to last year’s Redmi Note 10, the price has gone up by RM200. However, with this price increment, there are not many significant upgrades overall.

Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G

One can argue that the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G has “5G capabilities” but I’d say it’s still pointless to get a 5G phone right now. Check our video from a year ago to know why. Everything mentioned in that one-year-old video is still valid today.
