The mid-high range smartphone market is a bit of a troublesome segment. Brands have been tearing each other apart for years to get as much market share as possible but to be honest, getting the right balance between price and the amount of power plus features a smartphone offers is not easy to achieve. But today, we’ll take a look at OPPO’s latest model in the Reno family – the Reno7 – to find out how did this device is made to be the portrait expert while getting the balance game just right.
Crisp display
We’ll first get to the display because this is one of the great things about it. Rocking a 6.4-inch AMOLED panel, it can run at a maximum of 90Hz refresh rate with a 180Hz sampling rate which means not only it is smooth and slick but it is also twice as responsive due to it capturing your input at double the screen update speed.
It has certifications from Netflix and Amazon Prime Video to stream high-quality content directly to the device with the SGS Eye Care Display verification basically saying the screen emits a lower amount of blue light for protecting your eyes during long hours of binge-watching.
Lightning-fast charging speed
One that frequents the camera app or launching games will definitely feel the electric juice getting drained like no tomorrow but thanks to the 65W SuperVOOC charging tech where OPPO has always been one of the leading players in the industry and the associated power brick, you can quickly refill the 4,500mAh battery of the Reno7 Series smartphones to full in just around half an hour!
RAM Expansion Feature
Have you run into apps rebooting when you switch around them frequently? Not anymore as the Reno7 comes with 8GB of physical RAM and even if that’s not enough, the RAM expansion will add up to 5GB extra so you don’t need to worry about that again.
Competent gaming device that doesn’t scorch your fingers
Most Android devices in the market are mostly divided into 2 categories: Those that can run high-demand games like Genshin Impact but are priced to the roof or those that can’t run it at a playable state at all. Luckily, the MediaTek Dimensity 900 5G SoC makes quick work not only in this title but also in other famous games like LoL Mobile, PUBG Mobile, Mobile Legends, CoD Mobile, and more thanks to the AI Frame Rate Stabilizer constantly pushing for the optimal performance while keeping temperatures in check. The multi-cooling system is also one of the important contributing factors for decent gaming on the Reno7.
That feature alone doesn’t do the device justice for gaming and this is where Quick Startup comes into play to prioritize and keep game processes within an active state while you hop across other games so you can give your gacha games some quick taps and in the meantime queueing for the next MOBA match with the homies. Interestingly, the TÜV SÜD Fluency certification, in short, considers the Reno7 to not lag and slow down even after 2 to 3 years of usage.
ColorOS 12
It is also notable to mention the ColorOS 12 that comes with the Reno7 out of the box because ultimately, you’re gonna use your smartphone for general-purpose outside of gaming, and here are some interesting functions.
Tailored for office workers, the PC Connect function will let you work seamlessly between the Reno7 and your computer by casting the smartphone’s screen directly onto your PC while establishing a data connection so you can move files in between the two for some highly productive work session.
The ColorOS 12 also amps up the personalization factor by providing multiple elements to create your own unique Omoji so you can still be you even in the digital world. Not a really a fan? Go for the more than 200 personalized, trendy elements and emoticons instead.
There are also some pretty neat and notable functions like the Air Gesture giving you the power to control apps, answer or mute phone calls just by performing hand gestures without touching the phone to keep your privacy in check, and notifications will be hidden automatically when another pair of eyes is detected peeping at your phone screen too.
Exquisite Finish
As with OPPO’s tradition, they’ve also put quite an effort into designing the Reno7’s backside via the Laser Direct Imaging (LDI) manufacturing process to carefully engrave the pretty Startrails Blue color presented through a dual-layer, dual-texture covering technique resulting in a dynamic color-shifting pattern that is also scratch-resistant and fingerprint-proof. The device is also OPPO’s first venture into using the LDI process to create such a delicate exterior texture of a smartphone.
As for its dimension, it is only 7.81mm thin and weighs in at only 173 grams!
Powerful Cameras
Remember we said the balance between gaming and digital photography of the Reno7 is well achieved? The triple rear camera hosting a 64MP + 8 MP + 2MP combo actually churns out quite a bit of result in terms of shooting near and far objects or elements while the 32MP front camera gets the selfie task done without a hitch.
What does this mean to you? That means no matter the front or back, the Portrait Mode is optimized to deliver stunning portrait photos with the proper amount of depth and bokeh, all adjustable to your liking via the 25 available aperture settings.
Here are some sample photos taken with the phone, provided by OPPO.
The tech is not only for photos only as the video recording side also has the Bokeh Flare Portrait Video function that easily creates DLSR-class results by implementing real-time processing of the footage while keeping the subject natural.
Take a look at these and you’ll understand the capabilities of the Reno7’s digital imaging power.
