Speakers on most mobile devices are forever sub-par and limiting any chance of an impromptu party rocking out your favourite song of all time. The quickest fix for that is an external speaker, needed for bigger sound and the Logitech Z50 Multimedia Speaker might be the answer for you.5mm audio jack. Z50 multimedia speaker worked with all audio devices that having the 3.5mm output jack including smartphones, tablets, MP3 players, Windows and Mac computers. With the dimensions of 106.5mm x 98.6mm x 98.6mm and a cylinder shapes design, this mini speaker is meant to be compact. It’s not portable since it does need a AC power supply, so it’s much more accurate to be called as small-sized desktop speaker, suitable for places with insufficient space like your office desk or some sort.
[nextpage title=”Sound Quality”]As written on the box, this little speaker produces 10W of peak power for a surprisingly loud sound – and it does! Pretty loud and crystal clear vocal which was above my expectation but the bass isn’t that powerful though – as it is expected from a mono compact speaker such as this Z50.
As I use this speaker on my iPad to either watch movie or listen to music, all of the dialogue from the movie was crystal clear but the placement of the speaker is the factor of getting best sound quality. With only one speaker placing it to the left or right of the iPad, it can make the sound feel a little directional but placing it central will give you no problems – of course it will be blocking my view if I’m watching videos on the device. Therefore, to get the best sound quality, the speaker placement should be central behind whatever device that you’re using, that is with the device laid down flat so that it doesn’t block the sound.
[nextpage title=”Wrap up”]It can’t be deny that this little speaker produce loud and great sound but this speaker isn’t exactly portable as Logitech claims to be when an AC adapter is needed, which mean this limited as to where I can actually use it. Design wise this speaker fit in nicely with any kind of decoration, and with the 3.5mm audio jack, it makes the Z50 compatible with all computers, smartphones and tablets.
With the price as low as RM69, this is definitely worth it if you’re aiming for a mini speaker, but I would rate this speaker 10/10 if and only if this this mini speaker has a rechargeable or AA battery compatibility with the function to connect via Bluetooth or any wireless technology instead of only an audio jack. It would be nice too if there’s an option to cascade multiple Z50 speakers together to create a stereo sound.

Would I buy this z5o multimedia speaker? Low price and great sound definitely is a plus, but the portability is definitely a turnoff. A lot of thinking is required if I am to purchase this speaker, as it is a device that aims particularly on users with a cramped up space but wants loud, clear vocals to be played.
