Samsung’s Galaxy Z series devices featuring the Fold and Flip are one of the technological wonders in recent years because who would have thought that “bendable glass” can be materialized in this age and time.

But all the answers can be found in Samsung’s latest published video featuring the Ultra Thin Glass, a proprietary material proved to be folded hundreds of thousands of times with little impact on its durability and strength.

While the first two generations of the Z series smartphones are kinda hit or miss in the accuracy and perfection of the screen, starting from the 3rd and now the 4th, the cuts, shape, and overall polishness have been drastically improved. This is achieved by using an ultra-fine polish machine to make the surface really sleek.

Since little scratches here and there actually increase stress on the glass when bent so it is important that Samsung makes them as durable as possible. This is achieved after passing the polished glass into thermal and chemical chambers to toughen up the molecular structure.

Lastly, every piece of glass will undergo stringent quality tests that include bending them to extreme curvatures up to 200,000 times and sampling them to a demo device to make sure they work as intended.

It is nice to see Samsung is showing some of the inside news that how their QC and QA process runs in their factories and it will be more interesting to see how the technology will move forward, particularly with the recent “Slidable Display” created in partnership with Intel.
