Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) has announced that the big Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) are taking up equity stakes in the government-backed entity.

DNB 5G 1

Following the rule set of no one single MNO can hold more than 20% shareholdings and in the case of merged entities is 25%, Digi and Celcom are given 12.5% each to make up a total of 25% because both of them merged just not too long ago while YES and TM gets 20% each.

The final 35% will be held by the government and essentially act as a Golden Share where the holder can grant rights and privileges such as ownership, sale, or transfer of shares on behave of the cabinet.

As such, the movement of 5G service deployment across Malaysia will finally go towards a positive development with the first batch of coverage coming to end users from this month onwards. When talking about how much area can benefit from 5G in 2024, the reply was an 80% rate as the target.

Well, this is certainly good news as the service is finally getting the proper setup and launch but when will they accelerate the verification of 5G-compatible devices though.
