Samsung just stealth-released the Galaxy A54 out of nowhere. It’s very weird for Samsung to do so as the Galaxy A series phones were always hyped up before launch. Nonetheless, we have it on our hands today.
The new Galaxy A54 comes in a total of 4 vibrant colors – Awesome Lime, Awesome Violet, Awesome Graphite, and Awesome White. What’s weird to me is the decision to use a glossy finish for the back panel of the Galaxy A54 while the A34 is using a matte finish instead.
Speaking of the back panel, let’s take a look at the new camera cutout. The old design is now entirely gone, and now we have one protruding circle for each camera – similar to the new Galaxy S23 series. However, the camera protrusion on this phone is actually very high. Presumably, this is because of the focal lengths that we’ll talk about in a while.
As for the specs – here is a quick summary.
- 6.4-inch Super AMOLED
- 120Hz refresh rate
- 2340×1080 pixels in resolution
- Exynos 1380 chipset
- Triple rear-facing cameras
- Main: 50MP f/1.8; 23mm; PDAF; OIS
- Ultrawide: 12MP f/2.2; 13mm; fixed focus
- Macro: 5MP f/2.4; fixed focus
- 32MP f/2.2 selfie camera
- 8GB RAM
- 256GB storage
- One UI 5.1 on top of Android 13
- 5,000mAh battery
- 25W charging
- IP67 rating
Looking at the specs, it should be more powerful than last year’s Exynos 1280 from last year (obviously) and we’ll further discuss this in our full review coming soon.
So far, I have tested the cameras of the Galaxy A54 and it does some very good pictures. What I realized before looking at the specs sheet is the focal length. The main camera is at 23mm and it’s pretty standard, but the ultrawide angle camera is at 13mm. That’s very wide for an ultrawide angle camera.
Of course, I’m also glad that Samsung retained the IP67-rating for the Galaxy A54. It’s such an important feature these days that even if I don’t consistently wash the phone (yes I do that with my phones when it gets too dirty), it gives me peace knowing that my phone wouldn’t suddenly just have water go in because I accidentally splashed some water on or dropped it into the sink while brushing my teeth.
We also have the Galaxy A34 with us – so click here to get more information about that too. We’ll have our gaming test videos for both phones coming soon.
As of now, we do not have the price yet. We’ll update when we have the information. Probably gonna have some pre-order bonuses in typical Samsung fashion too.
