ASUS just showed off their latest laptop – the Zenbook S 13 OLED with the codename UX5304. The “S” in the name denotes that it is a super slim and light laptop, earning the name “ultralight” laptop. While there are lots of laptops that are below 1kg in weight, this laptop is unique because of its OLED screen. There are no OLED laptops at this thinness before this.
This screen is a lot thinner than other laptops that I’ve used while still rigid enough to not flex even when I intentionally did so. This laptop is also using a 13.3-inch screen with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a super-high resolution of 2880×1800 pixels. Since ASUS OLED screens are always super high in terms of color accuracy and color gamut coverage, they are rebranding and essentially creating a stamp of approval called the ASUS Lumina OLED. Every ASUS laptop that meets these high standards will have the ASUS Lumina OLED badge.
From what we were told, ASUS trimmed off tenths of millimeters away from each component to achieve this thinness. There is no new revolutionary breakthrough that allows this thinness – just their sheer dedication to make it slim. Interestingly enough, they still managed to make the laptop look and feel unique too.
Remember the plasma-ceramization technique done on the Zenbook 14 OLED UX3404 that we reviewed earlier? That process is present on this laptop too – but instead of having a sand color, they’re going with a color that they’re called Basalt Grey.
It is also available in another color called Ponder Blue which did not get the plasma ceramic treatment, but still looks good.
The specs of this laptop will also need to be up to snuff. It will be powered by a 13th Gen Intel Core U-series processor coupled with the Intel Iris Xe graphics, 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM at 5200MHz, up to 1TB of PCIe Gen 4 storage. Now, the thinness of this laptop will definitely affect the cooling of the components – that is why ASUS included two fans to this laptop instead of just one. We’ll have to try this out in our review when we get our hands on it.
It also has all the ports that we need – double Thunderbolt 4 ports, USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A (10Gb/s), and HDMI 2.1. All of them are full-sized ports, by the way. No need to carry any additional dongles.
This is also the most eco-friendly Zenbook ever produced. It uses recycled metals and plastics in its construction, FSC Mix-certified packaging, an elegant new eco-friendly plasma ceramic aluminum for the Basalt Gray model, and halogen-free electronics. Interstingly, even the entire packaging box of this laptop is made out of cardboard or paper and some parts of it are reusable as a laptop stand too.
The most eco-friendly Zenbook ever made, also the world’s slimmest OLED ultralight laptop – boasting lightweight design, sustainability, and performance to deliver more with less!
And from what we’re informed, this new ASUS Zenbook S 13 OLED UX5304 will be available in mid-May locally in two variants:
- Intel Core i5-1335U with 16GB LPDDR5 RAM, 512GB storage @ RM4,999
- Intel Core i7-1355U with 16GB LPDDR5 RAM, 1TB storage @ RM5,999
