A new research report entitled “Global Communication Service Providers: Market Growth Fuels Security Investments” has been published by A10 Networks.
The report aims to examine how Communication Service Providers (CSP) are responding and adapting to various client needs and technological advancements. The findings of the research suggest that robust network traffic growth is leading to increased investment in network security, infrastructure expansion, and portfolio diversification, as confirmed by the majority of the interviewees.
CSPs are increasingly focusing on expanding service areas to cover unserved or underserved communities by deploying secure connectivity. The report indicates that 69% of respondents are in favor of this move, with half of them expecting to achieve an uplift of more than 10% of their current subscriber base. Additionally, 19% of respondents anticipate an increase of over 50%. Furthermore, 31% of multi-nation CSP organizations are planning to build more data centers.
Regarding security, the report highlights that firewall and appliance upgrades are still the most prioritized protection aspects, but there is a growing focus on other areas such as DDoS protection and network monitoring, with 27% of respondents acknowledging these as important. Ransomware and malware protection services, automated security policies, and simplifying disparate point solutions are all ranked at 26%.
Cloud computing is another area of focus for CSPs, with the report indicating that positive impacts such as revenue growth and optimized product relevancy are the most noticeable in addition to the evolution of public cloud and managed data center services. However, only 16% of respondents reported negative growth due to the cloud shift.
The transition to digital infrastructure utilizing IPv6 remains a challenge for CSPs, with only 30% of respondents confident that they can make the full switch in the next 2 to 3 years. The majority of CSPs deploy smart and scarce management of IPv4 addresses while utilizing IPv6 whenever possible.
