Facebook Messenger just got an update to version 5.0.0.16.1 and it’s not just a number bump – it’s quite a big overhaul to how the app is used.
First off there’s an entirely new way to send photo through Facebook Messenger. The overview is as below.
First, tap the Camera icon and you’ll enter the Camera mode, with the viewfinder shown below as the “keyboard”. There’s a button to change between the front and rear camera, and then there’s a large send button. When you hit the send button once, you’ll send the photo instantly. Hit it twice, and you send two photos. That’s amazing!
The camera starts very quickly, and snaps photos at unbelievable speed. A great plus.
The not so great? Focusing a a big problem. Since the entire viewfinder has been cramped up to the size of a keyboard, you can still touch to focus – but on such a small area only. The focusing seems to be extremely slow and definitely not as good as launching the full camera app, but then again it does still work, just that the photos are not so pretty.
Exploring some other features – not so much changes on each of them except for the button where it shows “Aa”. That’ll make the entire keyboard show up.
The bad thing about this is where the text box had been moved an entire row up, with the Location button replacing the position of the send button that was on the previous versions. The Stickers button had been moved down alongside with the other buttons, and the position of the old Stickers button had been replaced with Emoji button. Pretty messy.
