Following their tradition, Kingston will release one special edition USB drive that is designed based on whatever zodiac that year is. For this year, it’s the year of the dragon and Kingston sent us this cute little USB drive.
Do dragons lay eggs? The general consensus is that they’re reptiles – and Kingston packed the Year of the Dragon USB drive in this egg shell.
The dragon is made of silicone, and this thing’s details are superb. Even though it is a simple cartoony looking dragon, the separation between the abdomen and the body looks great, and so are the ears and horns. Can’t forget those little flappy hands, too.
The comb at the top of the head is golden in color – and that’s where the USB drive is located. It can be pulled out and all of a sudden, the dragon becomes… kind of bald.
This is a 128GB USB 3.1 Gen 1 (5Gb/s) drive which is typical for today’s standard. Of course, we also did some speed tests to see just what kind of performance we can get from this cute USB drive.
To my surprise, this little USB drive has a higher than expected read speed of around 250MB/s sequentially. Usually, the read and write speeds are around 100MB/s each only.
But honestly speaking, I feel wrong to actually put this USB drive to use. It’s more of a collector’s item that I’d put somewhere in my room and show it off as a decoration. It’s a yearly tradition from Kingston at this point – and I too, want to collect each of them.
