I gotta start off by saying this – I like the Redmi Watch 4. It’s an amazing smartband that runs on Xiaomi’s latest HyperOS and offers lots of functionalities which we will go through in this video. I’ve been wearing this watch for about 2 weeks and here’s what I found out about it.
At first glance, I’m sure many people will say that this watch looks like the Apple Watch Ultra and I can see the resemblance somewhat.
It has a 1.97-inch AMOLED screen that is definitely bright but the colors look fine. Works well enough even during outdoors – and that’s all I care about.
The Redmi Watch 4 is available in two colors – either in black or white. The middle mid-frame is made out of aluminium – so it is definitely sturdy. There is also a speaker, a microphone, and a crown at the right side. That crown can be pressed or rotated and used as a scroll wheel.
In terms of the features available, they’re pretty basic, honestly. Most of the features are what we expected – like exercise mode, heart rate detection, SpO2 monitoring, sleep data collection, and all of that stuff.
Some of the features from the Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro are also present here too – like the DND syncing. However, the same bug is still present as sometimes my phone stays in DND but the watch has already exited DND mode. I have no idea why this is happening.

But since this Redmi Watch 4 is not running WearOS, it has very limited watchfaces to select from. Most of them are boring and doesn’t offer enough customizations to make it how I like it to be.
As a quick mention, notifications still can’t show things like emojis and such – so do take note of that.
However, I’m still impressed by the smoothness animations when we start navigating around the watch. Everything is very snappy and I’m impressed with the responsiveness.
But back to that scroll wheel on the crown. It can be used to scroll only when it is not on the homescreen. Yes, that’s correct. And the crown is completely smooth. There is no notches or tactility. The only way we know the function is working is through the vibration from the watch. That vibration is actually quite aggressive.
The strap design though – this is the one thing that I think is stupid. The idea behind the strap is fine since there is a permanent loop to hold the excess strap in place – but slotting it through that loop after pegging just doesn’t work because of the high friction.
It does have a new proprietary quick release system for the strap, so we can change it to whatever we want. We have a lime green color version of this same strap that I’m not going to open because of the aforementioned issues with this strap design.
As for the charger, it’s using a proprietary wired charger. I hope you remember to bring this charger with you because no other cables will charge this watch. Or maybe you don’t have to bring this cable with you while traveling since the battery can last for 2 weeks. I mean, pretty standard in terms of battery life with these kinds of smartbands.
Should you buy the Redmi Watch 4?
The Redmi Watch 4 goes for RM379 right now and I think this is a really good watch. Lots of features, great design, but the strap is a bit iffy and the software issue persists. I still have no idea why DND sync doesn’t work.
