Acer has announced a new Chromebook offering under the Chromebook Plus 514 name that tips a great balance between performance, feature set, and price.
As of the time of announcement, there’s only 1 variant so far therefore the specs sheet kind of “fixed” with an Intel Core i3-N305 CPU + 8GB LPDDR5 RAM so it might not be the best thing for anything graphic-heavy but definitely doable for document-based tasks.
As for storage, it comes with 512GB SSD for fast and ample local storage but since it is running ChromeOS anyway, have fun syncing files across Drive and Photo with ease.
The 14-inch display is a FHD one which is nice to have for viewing some YouTube videos with crisp quality and none of those blurry text. In this aspect, it does some degree of freedom for you to choose between touch and non-touch version.
It can also be a great thin and light device for online meetings since it has a 1080p webcam with TNR noise cancellation and also leverages some AI tech to make yourself clean and clear on the receiver’s side. Things like physical webcam shutter and dedicated camera/mic off button further shows that the new Chromebook really is made for online calls.
A simple set of USB-C allow connection of various peripherals and let’s not forget the usual exclusive Chrome Education Upgrade and Chrome Enterprise Upgrade available to it too.
